The Republican Party does not require a presidential candidate to win eight states to qualify to be placed in nomination at its upcoming Cleveland convention, GOP officials say.
The Republican National Committee's "Rule 40(b)" makes eligibility for the GOP nomination contingent upon winning a majority of the convention delegates in at least eight states or territories, an achievement generally accomplished by winning at least eight primary or caucus elections. However, Rule 40(b) only applied to the 2012 Republican convention in Tampa, Fla., that nominated former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
Party officials and knowledgeable sources have confirmed over the past few days that Rule 40(b) doesn't exist for the purposes of the upcoming convention. That means at this point, the three candidates left in the race, front-runner Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are all eligible for the nomination, as, possibly, are the Republican contenders who have since suspended their campaigns.

GOP Establishment Debates How to Deny the Will of Republican Voters Who Are On to Them and Sick and Tired of Their Games.
Don’t forget Kasich’s one and only win, Ohio.
They have’t even selected the Rules committee yet.
Here we go. If it was Rubio ahead instead of Trump you can bet the rule would be enforced.
Moving the goal posts will be the final nail in the Republican Party coffin.
By ‘selected’ you mean ‘cherry picked’, am I right?
It probably means they want to hand it to Kasich.
Trump would win under the current rules..., and so the Establishment Republicans now want to VOID THE VOTES of the Republican people.
If they succeed, then I don’t understand how anyone can vote for a Republican again?
The Republican party has clearly been taken over by Leftist.
Majority means 50% plus 1.
Plurality means the most among all.
Kasich won Ohio his home State only.
Do they realize the winner in the electoral college will be limited to the winner of enough states based on rules they can’t change? Or are they going for a strategy to throw it to the house and ignore both primary and GE voters? Or simply to throw it to Hillary?
Or maybe TDS is keeping them from any thought other than “I hate Trump”
Kasich 1 - Ohio.
Huh?
Wow. Changing the rules during the game is a DEMOCRAT STRATEGY.......you stupid RINOs at the top of the Party!!
Rule 40 specifies a majority of delegates, not a majority of votes.
The eGOP is screwing around with its very existence. I don’t know a single person that won’t write in their chosen candidate and then vote for nothing on the rest of the ticket.
I can't believe you would say such a thing! Disparaging the GOP?!?! How dare you??? Is it not obvious that we HAVE TO vote "R", no matter who that is, to avoid electing a "D"? And besides, all of us know that "R" is better than "D", no matter what. Get with the program.
