Trump called for an outright ban on Muslims entering the country, which Tom Cotton a conservative Republican senator said was wrong, according to POLITICO.
On Tuesday, Cotton told radio host Bill Bennett that he would not support Trumps proposal but added that, at the same time we shouldnt allow political correctness to get in the way of recognizing that there are a large number of radical Muslims around the world who would like to come to the United States and attack Americans.
Asked whether that means greater outreach in the Muslim community is needed, Cotton said, of course.
We need to not just encourage Muslims around the world to try and lead a reform movement within Islam that rejects the Brotherhood, ISIS, Al Qaeda viewpoint, but we also need to highlight it when they do so, he said, pointing to the United Arab Emirates and Egypt as positive examples.
POLITICO reports the meeting will take place before Trumps scheduled speech and meet and greet to a large pro-Israel conference taking place in the nations capital this week.
A source close to Cotton, a first term Republican known for his hawkish foreign policy views, said that Cottons attendance did not signal an outright endorsement, but rather that he was interested in hearing what the Republican front runner has to say, the news outlet reported.

Cotton is the most anti-liberty politician in DC. Either party.
Yeah, he’s a war hero. So was McCain.
I fear Cotton.
Trump is creating perception that he is nominee now, it will discourage Cruz and Kasich voters.
Tom Cotton does not sound “conservative” — he sounds like a RINO trying to appear conservative. I’d listen to him, but I wouldn’t trust him any further than I could throw the Queen Mary’s anchor.
“Nonetheless, even more interesting to me is that Cotton doesn’t appear to be all that “conservative” relative to the hype about how “conservative” he’s supposed to be “
The first red flag for me is that GOPe mouthpiece Hugh Hewitt has been a Tom Cotton booster since before Cotton was elected to the Senate.
That’s true
Congress needs to find that Islam is not a “religion” within the meaning of the First Amendment, and place the issue outside the jurisdiction of the federal courts.
It maybe even more nuanced than you noted. A fantastic read from Jeff Kuhner, and a must read at that. I took me a while to wrap my around this.
He announced yesterday he would give 5 to 10 judge names he might appoint for the Supreme Court
It’s the Sea Island Conservative Elitists vs the Citizen Conservatives.....
More wordsmithing. An all out ban vs. stopping them until we know what’s going on, I.e., being able to screen out the bad ones. Common sense. We don’t just want to throw open the doors to anyone that wants to come here. Sheesh. Which part of that don’t they get??? or don’t want to?
Cotton ran as a conservative, a military patriot. He evidently is neither.
Can someone explain how and why American elected representatives think that we are Constitutionally mandated to absorb all the riff raft in the world in order to commit national suicide?
I mean, to show just how pure and anti-racists we are, we must import everyone, even if the ones we import are salted with terrorists intent on our destruction.
There should be a requirement that each elected representative should have Muslims live in all the surrounding houses where his family lives.
When dem Cotton balls go rotten, you can’t picks you so much Cotton in dem ole Cotton fields back home....
I was hoping Cotton, an Ivy League grad, would at least be able to read with comprehension.
Trump has repeatedly said “temporary ban” an Muslims, and that while we get this straightened out.
Personally, I’d stop ALL entry until we get identification and control of any visitor as close to fail proof as possible.
>We need to not just encourage Muslims around the world to try and lead a reform movement within Islam that rejects the Brotherhood, ISIS, Al Qaeda viewpoint
IOW: Being a good Conservative, I’ll be bringing up a bill to borrow more $$ against your (grand+)children to give to XYZ; though nobody can site any Constitutional authority for any such action.
> Very disappointing for a...conservative.
The quote, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”, keeps coming to mind.
Yet, like insanity, it’s repeated, ad-nauseum, instead of using correct terminology.
Might be the lack of halting the sway to the Left, since the 60’s, be the simple fact that there lacks a simple, concise, and PRECISE, message with verifiable actions?
When the opposition (us) begins utilizing co-opted meanings, with no correction/push-back, the debate is done and lost: Game over.
/rant off
“Conservatives” like Tom Cotton are the reason that fewer and fewer voters are identifying as “Conservative” these days.
“Nonetheless, even more interesting to me is that Cotton doesn’t appear to be all that “conservative” relative to the hype about how “conservative” he’s supposed to be if Cotton thinks the best way to deal with ISIS and radical Muslims that want to the destroy the U.S. is more “outreach”.
Outreach, foreign aid, affirmative action, open borders, welfare, amnesty, nuclear agreements; they’ve all worked so well. Why wouldn’t they be the only option to save what’s left of America? <sarc
Seriously, let’s stop beating a dead horse. Trump will lose support if he even appears to be softening his stance on these things. Most patriotic Americans are tired of having their hard earned money taken from them for sluggards who have had zero to do with building this nation and have no interest whatsoever in doing anything but leeching.
Any earthly outreach we attempt to give them simply will end in more bloodshed for the rest of us as they take their war-God and demon outreach to the ends of the earth.
Cotton's another purported Tea Party Pubbie who's at least bright enough to know when he's whipped -- orrrr, he's part of a 'good cop' delegation.
Basic 3rd grade common sense seems to be sorely lacking in our government today.
Let’s look at the tally from the past 5 days........
2016.03.19 (Iraq)
A mass grave is discovered containing the remains of seventy female Yazidi victims of ISIS torture and execution.
2016.03.19 (Turkey)
An ISIS suicide bomber murders four people along a city street, including two American tourists.
2016.03.18 (Syria)
Two children, a boy and a girl, are reduced to pulp by a series of Sunni rockets on their neighborhood.
2016.03.17 (Pakistan)
A woman and her child are among four souls obliterated by a suicide bomber.
2016.03.16 (Pakistan)
Fifteen people are torn to shreds when Jihadis bomb a bus carrying commuters.
2016.03.14 (Syria)
A young man is shot in the head for ‘mocking religion’.
There’s been 28,108 terror attacks by MUSLIMS since Sept. 11th 2001
In the last 30 days alone there’s been
Attacks 125
Killed 1023
Injured 2008
Suicide Blasts 21
in 22 countries
But Tom Cotton doesn’t believe we should have a moratorium on importing Muslims.
