The English had gone through so much of this crap that they finally made it law under George the 1st. (Who was their king, even though he was German.)
But, if you really want to read a great book, get "Pirate Hunter" the true story of Captain Kidd, by Richard Zacks. It shows how William Kidd, a hero of the war in St. Kitts, became a victim of the royal establishment under King William. (William was not really English either.)
No William was Dutch ...
but he was married to Mary the daughter of the last Catholic king of England, James II..
