William deferred to Mary in England and was in Holland much of the time. He did rule England after Mary’s death in 1694.

Yes, William and Mary. But, if you read Zack's book, you can see that the ship with French passes, that William Kidd took, as a legal prize, was, in fact, transporting King William's property. It speaks of a king who is playing the people of England with double dealing.

But, it was not until George the 1st, that Parliament passed the law stating one must be a natural born citizen to hold office. George the 1st was German and only king because he was not a Catholic.

That gave Parliament the political power to pass laws that were in the best interest of England.
