Why Ted Cruz Should Reach Out To Mitch McConnell
Daily Caller ^ | 3/17/16 | Matt K Lewis

Even for high achievers (especially for high achievers?) ego can be a career-limiting liability.

Let’s take the case of Ted Cruz, for example. As the Weekly Standard notes, “Ted Cruz said that he won’t humble himself before Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to smooth over the rough relationship he has developed with colleagues.” (Specifically, he said he won’t go “on bended knee, with my hat in hand” to McConnell.)

I can understand the Cruz’s desire to preserve his outsider status, and we all have fallen victim to the temptation to gloat over our successes. But I still suspect this is a mistake. With Marco Rubio now out of the race, Cruz has an opportunity to get mainstream conservatives and establishment Republicans to coalesce around his candidacy. (It’s important to note that their reservations have much less to do with his philosophy than they do with his personality and tactics.)

Now, I know he has said he would welcome Rubio supporters “with open arms,” but this sounded a tad perfunctory. Cruz has a real opportunity to close ranks behind him, but any signals he sends about holding grudges can only undermine his chances.

Note: The author’s wife previously advised Ted Cruz’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

Note to author's wife and to author — Cruz needs to suck up to Trump.

That's his only path to survival.

If he were to be selected in a brokered convention, you would see total chaos in the party. Trump has too many followers that can't be stopped, and won't tolerate the establishment picking Cruz after he has his butt kicked in the primaries.

Get real Ted. And author. And author's wife. The numbers aren't there for Cruz. Too late...

It will be an apology of some kind. Something like “I might have gone a little overboard. But it’s because I’m passionate about what I believe. Surely those I’ve offended can understand that.”

In fact, he’s probably going over a list of 20 different ways he can say “I’m sorry” to the establishment without saying “I’m sorry”.

Yeah, except the President can't fire either the Speaker or the Majority Leader.

If Trump wants to get things done, he'll figure out how to work with them. If he just wants to grandstand, I suppose he could do that instead.

But he'll find out pretty quickly that Senators can be prickly bastards. It's the six year terms.

LOL. Cruz would be an idiot to reach out to McConnell. An idiot he’s not, so reaching out he won’t.

Gang of eight GrAmnesty Linda endorse Cruz, Bush endorsed him, H1B backer Fiorino endorsed Cruz.

For an outsider he is close to being Co-Opted

Cruz is close to no chance. Soon as the middle of April he will be more than 400 delegates behind Trump.

Cruz says he is an insurgent non DC outsider, prove it and drop out you will be to blame for a brokered convention.

They will use Cruz to put Mitt or Ryan in. The Senate hates Cruz and its personal. They hate Trump because its just bad for thievery business. The Donor class know Trump wants nothing of their crooked deals that have left the middle class unemployed, allowed an invasion of aliens and failed GOPe promises.

First step to winning is to is to replace the GOPe lock stock and barrel.

“He’s going to do it, he’s desperate”

The minute he does a suck-up to McConnell he loses me.

It has already started
Cruz:

Cruz doesn’t really have much of a base support anyway. He has won less than 25% of the primaries...Trump about 75%. . . .

Actually Cruz has huge support compared with other elections. The issue is that this year he's facing something the GOP has not had in decades. If Cruz handles the remainder of this election well, and if he matures well in the next eight years, he would be very competitive in 2024 to replace President Trump.

Yep. That’s democracy for you: eight years of Barack Obama courtesy of the American voter to be followed (it may be) by four years of another equally objectionable jackass, again courtesy of the American voter.

I don’t know how much more of this jackassery the country can survive.

Your post is a crock of bovine excrement.

Cruz never said any such thing. It is a made up quote that appeared first right here on this very thread courtesy of VerySadAmerican in post no 22 above.

You posting it as a genuine quote is akin to the dummasses who confused Tina Fey with Sarah Palin. This is how bad information gets into the public mind.

You ought to cut it out.

“Ted Cruz needs to apologize ...(for) ...calling Senator McConnell a liar on the Senate Floor.”

It isn’t slander if it’s true!

Do you even know what McConnell told Cruz and the rest of the GOP caucus about trade authority? .....Didn’t think so.

Lol. Problem is the race is over soon. He is barely registering in northeast states. 12 percent in NY, 15 percent in NJ. 11 percent in PA. That is a ton of ground to make up in a few weeks. And don’t forget another loss in Arizona on Tuesday.

Yes, but it is so boorish as to approach the level of acting like Donald J. Trump. Ted it much better than this! He has to bet along with the establishment because Ted really doesn’t have an independent power base.
