Thousands of anti-Trump activists in New York City claim they will converge on Trump Tower this weekend to protest the billionaire’s so-called “fascist policies.”
A Facebook page set up by Cosmopolitan Anti-fascists has roughly 5,000 RSVPs for a protest at the 68-story building hovering over 5th Avenue. The event, which appears to be the Big Apple’s attempt to answer anti-Trump protests March 11 in Chicago, will be held Saturday at noon. Approximately 15,000 people said they are interested in attending.

Interesting that most of these “anti-fascists” haven’t a clue what fascism actually was.
Mussolini abandoned the Italian socialists not because of socialism but because they had in practice become too conservative. He eschewed fascism being labeled as the political right.
The Italian blackshirts, and the German brownshirts, both documented fascistic organizations, had at least one thing in common tactically: they both had a record of ‘taking over’ public squares, public transportation hubs, and the like in opposition to the bourgeois and the economic elite.
Is it ironic? Perhaps. More sad though, in my mind, that the academics and students who populate these protests are so uninformed about the actual history of fascism that they adopt fascist tactics and arguments while tossing about accusations of fascism.
“Fascist” in the modern era is a word that has lost its meaning, and may in fact have no real meaning left that can be ascribed accurately. It is simply a pejorative, an insult tossed at political opponents. It sounds bad, it has the color of education and historical understanding for the user. But in reality it is so overused and misused that it’s become just another insult, and often says more about the user than the target.
