Republicans Are Surrendering To Donald Trump (Going With The Winner Alert)
Washington Post ^ | 03/17/2016 | Fareed Zakaria

Posted on 03/18/2016 12:46:52 AM PDT by goldstategop

The modern Republican Party has been devoted to free markets and free trade, social conservatism, an expansionist foreign policy and fiscal discipline, especially on entitlements. Remember that the speech that launched Ronald Reagan’s career was an attack on Medicare. On every one of these issues, Trump either openly disagrees or — as with abortion — has a past track record of disagreement.

Over the past decade, Republican support for immigration and free trade has been collapsing. But Trump’s nomination would transform the party into a blue-collar, populist, nationalist movement with a racial element — much like many others in the Western world. This would be a very different party from Reagan’s or Ryan’s.

What is so ironic is that by losing in a landslide to Hillary in November, Trump is going to ensure the opposite of every proposal he endorses.

Most notably, amnesty and citizenship will be made permanent, and the border wall will never be built.

So when has the Washington Compost EVER supported Reagan, or any *traditional* Republican?

And why are they decrying such now?

I hope that one of the side effects of Trumps’s ascendancy in the party is to finally kick that loser, Karl Rove, to the curb, along with that stupid whiteboard of his.

The biggest nothing, and huckster, ever seen in American politics.

Levin and Rush are both apoplectic about Trump kicking their guy’s a$$. They are now seeing the writing on the wall, and the inevitable Trump victory.

They are both screaming crybabies. It’s pathetic to listen to their rants. Not only is their guy going down in flames, they see their faux conservative movement doing likewise. If there is no conservative movement, then there is no need for their radio shows.

I am a conservative. By that I mean that I have traditional “conservative” values. Not that I belong to any faux conservative “movement”.

I am a born again Christian (is there any other kind?)

I am pro life, period! Except for the “LIFE” of the mother, which never happens anyway. The baby had nothing to do with any rape or incest. Adoption not MURDER is the answer.
I am against euthanasia and death panels (pro life)
I am against the death penalty (pro life)

ESV Romans 12:19
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

ESV Deuteronomy 32:35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’

I am pro traditional marriage (is there any other kind?)
I am for smaller gubmnt and less regulation
I am for the “Fair Tax” which includes repeal of the IRS
I am pro 2nd amendment. Not just for hunting, but for self defense and armed insurrection if it becomes necessary.
I am an original intent constitutionalist.
I am for STRICT border control. BUILD THE DAMN WALL!
I am for deporting ALL illegal aliens.
I am for a STRONG national defense
I am for DESTROYING ISIS, whatever it takes

I HATE political correctness. It must be stamped out wherever and whenever it raises it’s ugly head.
Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, must be defeated in every way legally possible. They are destroying our country.

I am NOT for normalizing relations with Cuba as long as the Communists are still in charge

I am FOR keeping Guantanamo Bay OPEN. All terrorists should go to Allah or here, but NEVER to set foot on U.S. soil

I am for water boarding and whatever means are necessary to extract intelligence info from terrorists. These barbarians chop off heads and pike them on city fences, drown groups of Christians in cages, set people on fire, rape women, throw acid in womens faces, not to mention fly planes into buildings killing THOUSANDS. And we can’t pour water in someone’s face? It’s time to get REAL!

I am for total energy independence. Oil, gas, fracking, nuclear, wind, solar, tidal, hydroelectric, geothermal, coal, algae, even Ethanol, With our VAST resources and technology that we should send one dollar to the middle east is unacceptable.

Iran must be stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons. STOP working on nuclear for any purpose. Allow U.S inspections ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE OR the bombs start dropping.
I support Israel 100%. The palestinians have zero claim to anything. Stop all peace talks until the Palestinians surrender and come crawling to Israel begging for peace.

I support a balanced budget amendment. The elimination of baseline budgeting. The paying off of the debt. The dramatic scaling back or elimination of complete gubmnt agencies, education, EPA, and as many others as possible.

I support the 10th amendment. States do it better.

I could go on, but I am running out of thoughts off the top of my head.

The POINT is.... The conservative “movement” is a fallacy perpetrated by the likes of Levin and Limbaugh. There is NO movement. What have they DONE? Accomplished? NOTHING!

They string us along so we will support their advertisers and buy their books, filling their pockets with cash! When all along they are just an arm of the uniparty giving us a place to vent our frustration and keep us under control, but they see their control slipping away and they are panicking. Rightly so. We are finally realizing that they are frauds and have no real power to change anything, even if they wanted to, WHICH THEY DON’T.

There is a REAL movement underway. We are mad as hell and we aren’t gonna take it anymore.

There is only ONE real anti-establishment candidate running for president. Only one who will shake things up in Washington. No more go along to get along. No more “well this is just how we do it around here”.

There is only ONE candidate who will make America great again, and that is Donald J. Trump

GO TRUMP!

I went back and forth between supporting Cruz or Trump. Liked this... didnt like that sort of thing but in the end I chose Trump. Now Im hoping a more conservative Trump will emerge. I tried to follow the GOPe and so called conservatives that make speeches at election time only to be stabbed in the back over and over. Its time for anti Hillary forces to join together, get behind Trump and move forward.

A break down of the states shows Trump can clearly win...

So Fareed a racial theorist himself disapproves of the Donald, ok. Fareed should in great detail explain the rules of Identity Politics, then it will all be better.

I know what you mean, but can we all please ditch the term “populist?” The Populists were Marxist agrarians who wanted government ownership of railroads and mass inflation. Don’t think Trump has ever come out for either of those.

Likewise, the “populist” parties in Europe are really middle-class/working class people who are sick of immigrants taking over their cities and welfare rolls.

I find it interesting the many in the Republican Party have issues with a candidate that appeals to patriotism and nationalism and it’s basic tenant protectionism. What does it say about them?

I have always been a free trader. But at some point, you have to compare the theory to the reality-—is it working?

The clear answer for Americans is no. So, the next question is, “is the theory wrong or is it not being applied correctly?”

I think the latter. Free trade demands that if you have a product and I have a product we both get to put our product on the shelf and let the buyer choose. That is absolutely NOT happening in the world today, due to protectionist policies in other countries. Many American products simply can’t be sold. In the case of drugs, ALL foreign countries regulate the price of American drugs, so the drug companies have to gouge American consumers to make up the difference (hence, the $80k a year MS drugs that are a tiny fraction of that in Europe).

To get to true free trade, you must impose restrictions that level the playing field. It sounds weird, but so do “tax cuts for the rich,” which nevertheless have the effect of increasing taxes PAID by the rich because they invest and build more. At any rate, time to temporarily ditch the theory until we figure out if the theory is wrong or the application is wrong.

“The media called RR the same names as they are now calling Trump and GEORGE WILL DESPISED REAGAN WITH THE SAME HATRED HE HAS FOR TRUMP.”

Is that right?

I really had Will wrong then, because I thought he was only now losing his mind. Now I know why he kept his job at abc all those years.

The media always seems surprised that Trump is popular with ordinary people, that his campaign offices have diverse staffs, that they can’t find any employees to badmouth him, that not even his ex-wife will badmouth him, that he has fought others who WERE racists, that his supporters include black pastors and civil right activists.

They were completely unprepared for a candidate that didn’t check first with party bosses about the “right” answers — that carefully crafted, poll-tested, think-tank-approved, political platform that would make him a “true” Republican. It has been 9 months and they still can’t seem to accept his success. 9 months and they are still waiting for him implode. If he can keep them off balance and in this holding pattern for another 9 months we may actually get our country back.
