As polls open for US primaries in Ohio and Florida, the political elite in Tokyo is starting to confront a disconcerting idea: that their indispensable US ally could actually elect Donald Trump as president. The controversial businessman, now favorite for the Republican nomination, hits Japan regularly in his stump speeches for supposedly unfair trade practices and freeriding on US military protection.

The only thing wrong there is that the word "supposedly' should be dropped.

The flip side of not ‘free riding on the US military’ is Japan will be able bolster the JSDF.

It is healthier to have that independence.

First of all, Japan is not “alarmed.”

Second of all, most Japanese follow US politics only slightly more than American follow American politics.

Third, even if they do, most have no opinion of Trump

This is pure, 100% MSM propaganda and “narrative forming.”

The one country on the Pacific rim that has been sounding the alarm more is China.

Trump has been dealing with Japan, Korea, and China for over 30 years, knowing ones enemy and friends is a valuable asset rightly to be feared as one gains influence in the world market.

... and freeriding on US military protection.

So does that mean Trump will pull U.S. Marines out of Okinawa and the U.S. Navy ships out of Japan?

Half the world is worried they won’t be able to rip off the United States any more... If you think the Japanese are worried, think what’s it’s like for the human filth in the UN that lives off our taxpayers..

Didn't Japan's "free riding" come about as a result of their losing a little fracas in the forties? And haven't they been making changes in their policy and building up their military to be more responsible for their own defense? We have more countries than Japan free riding on our defense.

I got nothing for the trade practices.
