I see it. The rhetoric is overheated on both sides, at least from some quarters.
There are many more people of goodwill and pure intent on both sides of the Cruz/Trump debate than you’d think from reading the posts here.

thanks, but I imagine (and just to preface pro forma that i am running under the presumption that the event was not staged, by anyone) that the SS folks, local police, and trump’s own security are already conducting thorough post-mortem reviews of the incident.
Trump likes to shake hands and give out autographs afterwards. There is a fine line between security and allowing the candidate to interact with his supporters.
I also was watching the live feed. For the poster who said Trump was sweating profusely, that occurred way before the attack. He had taken his coat off 10-15 minutes before, with the crowd roaring approvingly.
As he continued to speak you can see sweat on Trump’s upper lip. It was warmer than he anticipated.
I did not see any attacker on the stage. Trump was immediately surrounded by his security people, and if you look at the video before the attack you will see they are posted around the platform and looking out.
This is very unsettling. Blaming Trump for this is wrong, like blaming the victim always is. The Trump campaign should get to the bottom of whoever organized the Chicago protest, including the Facebook page, and if possible talk to the attacker at Dayton to find out who he/she is, what connections they have to other candidates or groups. Those groups should be asked, publicly, if they support physical attacks on Trump and whether they would welcome similar protests against themselves or whoever they support.
We deserve free debate, without threats. I do not want anyone attacking Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz and so on. Anyone defending the attacker of Trump needs to be censured publicly.

Right or wrong, by law, USSS protected candidates get special treatment.
Also, Congress critters, Senators and judges, as well as most government types in general.
Some animals have been more equal than others for a long, long time.
I’d even go so far as to say that some of the Protected Class are worried that Trump may upset the cozy arrangement, and are more than willing to smear Trump with the organized actions of the perpetually aggrieved.

Agreed, 100 percent. They used to call Chretien ‘The Friendly Dictator’ and there is little that he did that I could agree with, but on that occasion as you rightly pointed out, he was absolutely in the right. Good on him.

I never referenced the rally or protest.
Every candidate, or their supporters, has the right to hold a rally or event wherever they choose.
People are free to peacefully protest at those rallies.

yes but they allowed the element of surprise to be used, which is bad. i get a sense that trump’s protection detail was caught somewhat off guard and that the protestors got closer to trump FROM BEHIND than they ordinarily would have had a right to expect.

PS, if you watch the tape, there seems to be at least two closely timed and presumably coordinated events, from two different directions. One person seems to run very quickly towards the back of the stage from camera left (Trump’s right), and then run quickly back to camera left (Trump’s right) again. Was this guy a protestor or a member of the security detail, I wonder.
BUT I believe Cruz will be doing this and also dealing with the illegal immigration problem. It's going beyond that that I have trouble with Trump, and his demeanor. I just don't trust him.
I'm also a Social Conservative, and abortion and gay marriage are vitally important to me.
I feel if we just secure the borders, and deal with illegal immigration, get the economy going, BUT allow social decay, we will go down just as fast as a nation as we would if we are overrun with illegals.
