I guess the book stuck in my mind more. I reread it just a few months ago. I do remember that bursting into flames scene in the movie, but only after you mentioned it. That visual probably lends itself to film more than describing a blissful drug trip, which can be done easier with words. There are a lot of drug trips in the book. It was the only real escape for the characters’ horrendous existence. That and sex. It was a moral void. Having a short, mandatory expiration date doesn’t inspire you to excel at anything.
We need to tread very, very carefully in this area.
100% agreement.
Well, at least I know where to go when I finally run out of money due to the Obamaconomy. No overseas journeys to Europe for yours truly!
but no, we have to have a law now, and we have to have these people that want to die grab a few more headlines...
if you want to die, then just do it....stop making the rest of us witness or participate in your selfish act of suicide....
we want no part or your pity party....
why don't they just lay down and take them all at once?....
but no....that wouldn't be dramatic enough...
they need to have a big party over their death...using up a good hospital room with lots of relatives and friends...
die quietly at home by your own hand?.....where's the glory in that?
I can see that certainly...
it'll start slow...denying certain surgeries for "elderly"....then denying pain relieving surgeries....then denying physical therapy and drug therapies...forget chemo or radiation....
I'm not a person who believes in extending life by any means possible...I'm mostly against feeding tubes and ventilators for people beyond saving...
but forcing drs to actually treat patients for death...????....insanity....
