Donald Trumps appeal is said to be his straight talk. But when it comes to international trade, he sounds like a hypocrite, the classic Do what I say, not what I do politician.
While bashing companies for investing in foreign countries, Donald Trumps own company has shown no inclination to invest and build only in America. In fact, a significant percentage of his companys hotels and major real estate properties are located abroad. Mr. Trump is either inexcusably hypocritical or inexcusably ignorant of economics, according to Donald J. Boudreaux, a professor of economics at George Mason University. There is zero economic difference between, say, a U.S. car companys investments abroad in factories and Mr. Trumps own investments abroad in hotels: both are meant to improve the bottom line of companies headquartered in the U.S. by taking advantage of profitable economic opportunities outside of the U.S.

Question. Are you proud to be supporting a candidate that has given so much support to Democrats....and who is now getting so much support back (quid pro quo)?

What should happen to a US business leader who has not invested as you say, but rather is proven to have outsourced manufacturing jobs overseas wherein such jobs could have stayed or developed stateside? What to do with such a scoundrel?
If the penalties or disincentives for manufacturing overseas for American consumption are passed they will affect Trump businesses as well. Trump has stated he is fine with that. He is putting America’s business first.
The thing about business men is that they have to take the world as it is in order for their businesses to survive. The vast number of startups go belly up. There is no room for ignoring the true economic constraints, everyone else will undercut you if you do.
Trump wants to change the game so American manufacturers can compete. That really isn’t hard to understand unless you have an axe to grind. If Trump was saying “Shame Shame” then you would have a point about hypocrisy. But since he is saying the system sucks and we need to rebuild it so the smartest thing for the companies is to stay in the USA - that is just common sense.
OMG!!! Mind blown!!
Are you insinuating that Trump’s interests are forced to operate within the same business atmosphere as every other American company?
Holy Sh*t! I hope a candidate comes along soon who will shift foreign trade into America’s favor!
But all you do is attack and with misinformation to boot. Then when someone runs out of patience and snarks you are offended. You attract that kind of comment when you don’t fact check before posting opinions as facts.
2. I HATE milquetoasts like Romney.
3. I LOVE street fighters who have: met payrolls, love America, are successful, know how to negotiate deals and who piss off the elites.
Now to your BS article. Ford, Nabisco, etc are laying off people here in Chicago and moving companies to Mexico. Why because of federal and local taxes, regulations and cheaper labor.
You have a problem with Trump building hotels and golf courses here in the US as well as abroad? Trump has a fabulous building here in Chicago, employing hundreds. WTF, have Freepers gone completely mad?
It reflects very badly on him. There is a name for someone who would do anything to get his ambition and destroys himself in the process...”Ambition destroys its possessor.” Macbeth
You tell me, since you’re obviously smarter than the average bear.
You persist in putting your illogic and bias out there for all to see. That would accomplish nothing but bankrupting that particular company. The same quality garments could not be made at a comparable price range in the USA at present. That is why for things to change the laws must change. Mr Trump unlike you is actually putting his money where his mouth is, putting himself out there for abuse, grueling days and a whole bunch of $$$ to try and change our business climate so that American manufacturing will thrive. You are disingenuous.
First, the writer is a Cato guy, is pro imported cheap labor and has written papers to that effect. So claiming Trump is a hypocrite for outsourcing is the epitome of Pot/Kettle.
There is zero economic difference between, say, a U.S. car companys investments abroad in factories and Mr. Trumps own investments abroad in hotels: “
What complete hogwash. Trump is not talking about investing in Opel for cars destined for the German market.
I am very proud to be supporting Donald Trump, a true American Patriot.
You went back to 2011 to a story that cherrypicked instead of looking at his entire donation history as I did. Are you for cherrypicking temperatues too if that supports your theories?
Your second article is a HotAir push poll..impressed..not.
The CEO of Carrier was asked to name regulations and taxes that caused the move to Mexico, he could think of any.
Nabisco has not reduced the retail price of Ores to reflect the lowered cost of production. Why is that?
Really? Show me where I have posted "misinformation" and prove that it is misinformation. You can't.
I'm only offended when Trump camp followers make personal insults and attacks upon those of us that are merely voicing our political opinions here, at Free Republic, which is a political discussion forum intended for voicing and expressing political opinions. I happen to support the only real conservative running in this primary, IMO. FR is supposed to be intended for conservative political discussions. Only difference these days is....we've been infested with leftists lately (happens every election year).
As for posting opinions as facts, while I usually include a link backing up my stance...I've seen Trump followers post lie after lie about Ted Cruz here lately. Lies that are easily proven as lies. So yeah, I'm FTFU and yeah....I'm fighting back. If you don't like it...sue me.
Sooo...going back four or five years is “cherry picking”? Absurd.
You might want to check out the two links I provided you, btw. Unless you’re afraid to.
Happy to discourse with you anytime. As you’ve proven you are able to do so in a civil manner. There is much I believe you are missing here in the whole issue. But I’ll be putting up another article which demonstrates my point, this was just the downpayment article. PS many of us Freepers are quite OK still, and have our reasoning skills and self control still intact. :-)
Compare? Yes and contrast. Does outsourcing smack you as inexcusable but mere investing is a different animal and carries no negative connotation?
As to the pricing of Oreo cookies, I have no idea. The stock price may have gone up to reflect higher profitability.
From your link:
“Most of the Trump neckties, shirts and suits are made in China, Bangladesh, or simply say imported. And virtually all of his daughter Ivanka Trumps extensive clothing and accessory line for women is made outside the U.S., with many items manufactured in China...the Ivanka Trump Collection has now been removed from the Trump Organizations website.”
The did that in Australia, it was called Holden Motors. Holden moved overseas and now produces it’s cars in the far east. Gn proved to be just as loyal to Australians as the are to Americans.
