How Trump, Rubio and Cruz Would Fare Against Clinton in November (Clinton 51% - Trump 38%)
NBC News ^ | March 9, 2016 | Carrie Dann

Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders would handily defeat Donald Trump in a general election match-up, while a clash between Clinton and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz or Florida Sen. Marco Rubio would be a toss-up, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

The poll shows that Trump, who frequently boasts in interviews and campaign appearances that he would beat Clinton in November, would lose a one-on-one contest against her by double digits. In a head-to-head fight, Clinton gets the support of 51 percent of registered voters compared to 38 percent for the real estate mogul.

For Sanders, the margin of victory would be even greater, the poll shows.

The Vermont senator gets 55 percent support in a hypothetical two-person race against Trump, while the GOP front-runner would get just 37 percent.

While Trump remains the front-runner for the GOP nomination, Republicans like former presidential contender Mitt Romney have urged their party's voters to back Cruz or Rubio, whom they say would have a greater chance of defeating the Democratic nominee.

The NBC/WSJ data supports that theory; both Cruz and Rubio would be competitive with the former secretary of state, both running within the margin of error in hypothetical general election battles against Clinton.

So why do the Democrats (and the MSM) continue to disparage Trump. Wouldn’t they WANT him to win the nomination?

It’s a little early for these polls. And way too early to judge the outcome by a single one.

People are thinking Trump will clean the floor with Hillary. I think they are wrong.

My guess is that instead of her trying to go head to head in the insult game her team will dress her in pink and make her into a sweet talking victim that just wants to help the po' folk and down trodden.

When they do her numbers will go through the roof as the media plays Trump as the nasty rich white guy.

One question, why is the much beloved Cruz not beating Trump since he obviously is so worshiped by the voters no

Because Cruz does better with the overall electorate vs. the dems. He brings in a wider swath of voters. Trump, while exciting a large plurality of GOP voters... doesn't. Not that hard to figure out, really.

Well I'm absolutely certain that NBC would not conduct or publish a biased poll, nor would they ever play favorites, so I might as well just give up and go into hibernation. /s

A guy who has won one state caucus, and one territory is in a tie with Hillary, but Trump is down 13 points.

Yeah. I believe this poll completely.

NBC wants us to ignore the turnout being seen in the primaries.

They've barely tapped Trump. The nanosecond after he's nominated is when they open up on him.

She could be in intensive care hooked up to machines, and be indicted on a thousand felony counts, and the voters might still come out in droves to make her the first woman president. Two electoral routs by the unqualified Kenyan proves that anything is possible. The dumbing down of America is almost complete.

Clinton is a very flawed candidate.

Given that we're in the year of the outsider, it would be extremely easy to define Clinton as anything but.

If this were Bush, Romney or Rubio, such a definition couldn't be made. With Trump, no sweat.

These polls are designed to influence.

Little doubt in the real world Trump would destroy Clinton, I mean, not even close.

Just out of curiosity is that the same poll which said Trump would lose big in SC

What poll was that? He was leading for many weeks prior to that primary.

NBC at their finest....they pay these typists all this money, and they have to show something for all the money being laid out, heck why not work up a ‘fairy land’ story or two...

I’ve even thought about doing one, right on here, see how many people would ‘gobble’ it right up...LMAO...

well, yesterday GOP turned out almost 200,000 more voters than did the democrats in Michigan, and that pattern has been seen in every open primary

GOP voters are coming out in droves
Anecdotally, a lot voting for the first time
and only for Trump

or they go back home

So I just don’t see the enthusiasm of democrats to vote even, especially to come out and vote for Hillary. I don’t think she carries any demographic except blacks and old rich people

Once the Clinton Democrat machine screws the Bern where are the millenials and blue dog Reagan democrats gonna go? The Bible thumping Ted Cruz? Has he ever yet filled a stadium?

Common sense says these polls stink on ice

38% for Trump is probably optimistic. Everyone knows that the MSM has been pulling their punches on DJT. The guy can say and do the most absurd, asinine things and the media ignores it. Last night, the Donald claimed he’d be more presidential than anyone other than Abe Lincoln. Washington, Jefferson, TR, Reagan et al. are apparently pikers. And the media doesn’t even mention it. But watch gloves come off as soon as he’s the nominee. All Trump’s dirt laundry, failures and scandals will explode like the Gadget in Alamogordo. By the time he limps to November, he’ll be lucky to get 33% of the vote.
