Democrat-turned-Republican state Sen. Carlyle W. Begay has announced he is entering a crowded field for the GOP nomination for the open seat in Arizona's 1st Congressional District.
Begay is a Navajo appointed to fill a legislative vacancy in 2013. He won election to legislative term of his own in 2014 as a Democrat. He switched his party registration in 2015 after earlier in the year breaking party ranks to back a Republican-drafted state budget.

The sprawling 1st District includes Flagstaff, the Navajo Nation and most of Pinal County.
Is he realated to Notah Begay, the golfer? Tiger’s college roommate, I think.
Very common name on the Rez.
Began is a common Navajo name.
Opportunist. Just like McCain.
Rino. Just like McCain.
Lying liberal. Just like McCain.
Carlyle Begay was rated 42% by American Conservative Union.
The Guys a moderate at best which is
still a liberal.
To put it another way “Moderate” means liberal lite. Which means “LIBERAL!”
“Indians get to vote in American elections but get to live on “sovereign” land”
As long as they vote Democrat. They even let wetbacks vote
as long as they vote Democrat or in this case a lying
liberal who says he’s a conservative republican like McCain.
That’s right.
Almost on is still off.
Almost right is still wrong.
Almost true is still false and
almost conservative is still liberal.
“Wait a sec. Indians get to vote in American elections but get to live on “sovereign” land (i.e another nation), pay no taxes and open casinos?”
Indian votes keep us stuck with Ann Kirkpatric, along with the liberals that choke us here in Flagstaff.
Kirkpatrick is my rep too, and I’m in Maricopa in Pinal County. The 1st congressional district is huge and incongruous. At least I don’t have Grijalva anymore, so there’s that.
