Sen. Ted Cruz's victory in his home state of Texas, dubbed huge by many in the media, was the worst showing by a Republican candidate in a home state since 1913, according to a new analysis.
On Super Tuesday, Cruz won 43.7 percent of the vote, besting Donald Trump who won 26.7. But the average primary showing by Republican candidates who won their home state in the last 100 years has been 78.5 percent, according to the Smart Politics blog from Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
“? the guy who cares about his penis size is an exceptional candidate?”
The guy who cares about Trump’s tool may not even win his home state of Florida.
Bubbles was the one who was interested in Trump’s tallywhacker.
With Cruzs numbers he would lose a primary challenge for his Senate seat...
Not really. With less than 50 percent, he would have been in a runoff with the next highest candidate in the field. This is exactly how he won his senate primary with David Dewhurst: Dewhurst had 44 to Cruz’s 34. In the runoff and general election, Cruz never got higher than 56 percent but it was enough to win. Cruz is unlikely to ever have an opponent for his senate seat as strong and popular as Trump, so reelection shouldn’t be a problem. I’m actually surprised Cruz did as well against Trump as he did in Texas.
And when did you move to Texas? I did, in 2008.
You may not like Trump or his policies, but he is an historic break from the past, at least during the post-WWII era. There has been no one like him in regards to being outside the mainstream and commanding the game like he does.
THAT’s what has so affected this campaign season. Yes, he IS exceptional.
Didn’t Cruz cancel his Mississippi performance?
Great post, Liz. And worth posting twice.
I know ALL politicians lie. And I know Trump has flipped and flopped. But Cruz puts himself out there as someone who is perfect. And that doesn’t set well with me.
Finally, Dan Patrick ran as a tea party guy. He went establishment as soon as he got to Austin and was against Cruz for senate. Now he stands beside Cruz. So, did Cruz turn establishment or did Patrick revert back to tea party?
A win, however, is still a win.
Watch Beck hold and press conference and announce they beat the record for the lowest percentage.
Little Marco brought the filty talk up. He said one week ago at a rally....
1. I went into the dressing room during the debate and saw Donald Trump looking in the mirror at himself and he had peed on himself...giggle, giggle, giggle.
2. I saw how small Trump’s hands were and you know what they say about a man about a man with small hands...giggle, giggle, giggle.
3. Donald Trump has the best spray on tan in the world and it’s orange...giggle, giggle, giggle.
4. Donald Trump acts tough but I bet he’s never hit a man in the face in his life???????? (is that a strange remark or what).
So that’s where the penis jokes came from. Not Donald Trump, but from that little sawed off creep Rubio.
Since he started his childish, belittling talk about Trump Rubio has won the caucus in Minn and Puerto Rico.
He’s getting slaughtered by both Trump and Cruz.
I can count. Canuck Ted got 43.8% of the vote. Almost 60% of the people in Texas didn’t vote for him, they voted for somebody else.
“Cruz’s Texas win marks lowest home state support in 104 years”
Presidential candidate Ron Paul, a Texan, got 4% in 2008 and 12% in 2012.
oh no!!!!!
so now I must surrender my support because of this!!!
because republicans are cowards and COWER in fear at anything that goes against them!!
he’s not even a citizen!!!!!!!!!!! /s
Cruz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Texas has open primaries. It’s probable that the Dems crossed over and voted for other than Cruz. The Dems want Trump to run against Hillary so she will win the general.
This race is unique and those historical results have no application this year.

That’s what drives me nuts this year about the media pundits and Bill Hemmer on FNC. They keep trying to compare this primary season to 2008 and 2012. Things are much different now after Obama has succeeded in downgrading the economy and the entire country for its citizens and in the eyes of other countries.
I am very disappointed in Cruz. I hope he has a primary opponent, maybe Dan Patrick?
Did you know Santorum beat Romney in KS in 2012 winning 56% of the vote (more than Cruz got).
Cruz won every county in Texas. It’s hard to see how he could have done better with the Trump phenomenon this cycle.
Your #39 posting here is informative. Thank you. It was a pleasure to read a posting with factual data rather than the mudslinging being done on most threads by many.
I have to think that if Trump wasnt a NYer, he would have won.

Actually, us Texans prefer truth tellers who do what they promise people they will do. Cruz has done that.
