Limbaugh on Trump: Much bigger upside than downside
The Hill ^ | March 06, 2016 | David McCabe

Posted on 03/06/2016 7:59:12 AM PST by Leaning Right

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Sunday that there's a "much bigger upside than downside" in the Republican presidential candidacy of real estate developer Donald Trump.

"I think with the case of Trump, there’s a much bigger upside than downside," said Limbaugh while appearing on "Fox News Sunday."

We obviously hear different things when we listen to Cruz.

“You are absolutely correct. Limbaugh gains nothing
by openly supporting a candidate in the primaries.”

Limbaugh has openly supported Cruz for the longest time.
So has Levin.

I am still trying to get a handle on just what those two mean by saying they do not endorse a candidate. What, pray tell, could they say different about Cruz if they did in fact say the magical word “endorse”? The word would finally catch up with their actions.

Rush did seem a bit hesitant when he answered about Trump. I think that was probably on purpose; he knew what he would be asked. He wanted to appear to be hesitant.

So here we are. Do you want someone who can lead us out of the swamp, or someone who can explain how bad the swamp is?

That needs to be repeated...

At this point, the word “Conservative” is almost a meaningless label. Let’s hear details.... and not just words, but votes and actions.

That's what I'm sayin'...

No, he was pushing Rubio pretty hard. It really made me wonder why as Rubio has done nothing to this point in the primaries.

Easy, reducing the size and scope of the federal government out of peoples lives. That’s the difference between Cruz and the rest of the candidates.

Perhaps you haven't been listening to Trump at all...

Put education back into local control...Buldoze thru every Federal gov't department cutting waste and fraud...Getting people back to work and off welfare...And of course eliminating ObamaCare and getting healthcare choices back into the hands of the people...Open carry from state to state...

The list goes on and on...

Cruz is backed by Conservative Christians and some Texas oil money and thousands of small donors like me. His platform is to reduce the size of the federal government which would put lobbyists out in the cold. He is anything but GOPe.

Cheating problem.

Great conservative values

You are incorrect. Rush has many times said that his success is not tied to who is in office. He is relentlessly conservative and very ideologically conservative. I have listened to him heavily criticize W especially in the 2nd term when he refused to defend himself and then when he supported TARP and bailouts of GM and Chrysler and other things. He was brutal against McCain in ‘08 and critical of Romney.

Rush is first and foremost an ideological conservative and that is the basis of his success.

You are out of your mind. More dangerous than Obama? The most dangerous on the republican side are those that want more boots on the ground in Syria. WWIII anyone? What could be more dangerous than that?

Believe you make my point. Obama has set us up for a real disaster if we plug in the wrong replacement. That IS my point, and Trump’s MO is very much the “Bull in a china closet”, and all the nice china is way too exposed for that.

Odd you think that since the only GOP candidate who did not advocate armed confrontation with Russia over Syria last fall was Trump

Yep. And there is a reason for that. We may get to find out what he would do once in the hot seat. I sincerely hope not.

As a listener and watcher of Rush (remember his excellent TV show?) since Dan’s Bake sale, I stuck with him through the divorces and pill-popping and apology to Sandra Fluke. He lost me permanently when he called Rubio a “full throated conservative.” (ew.) And the gang of 8? He said everyone makes mistakes. Whether he supports Trump or not is no longer interesting.

Cruz is backed by Conservative Christians and some Texas oil money and thousands of small donors like me. His platform is to reduce the size of the federal government which would put lobbyists out in the cold. He is anything but GOPe.

You are forgetting Goldman Sachs and a host of other big GOPe donors...

“A lot of Wall Street is out of touch with mainstream America,” Cruz’s wife, Heidi — who is on leave from her job as a managing director at Goldman Sachs and is one of his most prolific fundraisers — said recently. “That’s not our funding base.”

The senator is a different person in private fundraisers than out on the campaign trail, according to people who have observed the dynamic. He doesn’t back away from his hard-line positions, but he quickly moves past them, trying to present a restrained, Harvard-educated lawyer.

A Republican strategist well connected to the donor world added: “When he’s with major donors, they expect the guy they see with all the red meat, but they instead see an intelligent, buttoned-down lawyer with real bona fides. He will say things like, basically, ‘This is politics — you’ve got go out there and sell and perform.’ ”

Campaign finance filings show that more than half of Cruz’s max-out donations are coming from his home state, Texas, where he is methodically bringing longtime backers of Perry and the Bush family into his fundraising network.

Houston real estate developer Welcome Wilson Sr. was supporting Perry until he dropped out of the race. He has close ties to the Bush family — his son Welcome Wilson Jr. went to school with Jeb Bush — but said he was convinced that the senator from Texas could best capture the imagination of the voters now considering Donald Trump.
Mosbacher, whose late husband, Robert Mosbacher, served as commerce secretary under George H.W. Bush, considers herself more of an “establishment type.” She decided to back Cruz because she is convinced that he can win.

The consummate politician...Like a poppy wafting in the wind...Telling each group what it wants to hear...

Not the solid rock the likes of Donald Trump...

Limbaugh has not openly endorsed Cruz. He has stated that
Cruz is the authentic conservative and he might even prefer
Ted. But he has not endorsed anybody.

Have you heard Limbaugh say “Vote for Cruz, not for Trump”?
If you do then get back to me and I’ll send you a gift
card for Chic Fil’et if you can prove it.

If that isn’t an open endorsement, I don’t know what is. Let’s not play stupid here. Unless you want to argue over what “is” is.

Trump changes his actual positions in the same speech. Cruz has proven that he walks the walk of fighting the GOPe. I really don't care where his wife works. Cruz is the candidate.

Not to mention that Mr Outsider (career govt employee) CRuz has taken in Team Jeb's (Romney/Open Borders cabal) finance team. If that doesn't finally convince (all but the thickest planks) folks, nothing will 😜

” Rush needs to retire.”

The left would love nothing more than that.

No. I have listened to Rush for many years. His show was irreverent and entertaining, much like Trump is now.

Now, Rush stays away from taking a hard stand and is afraid at times to say what is on his mind.

Ergo, it is time for him to retire.
