Cruz Surges, Trump Shows Vulnerability
National Review ^ | March 5, 2016 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 03/06/2016 4:57:44 AM PST by reaganaut1

It was a great night for Ted Cruz, and an encouraging one for opponents of Trump. The Texan won a smashing victory in Kansas and an unexpected one in Maine. Trump took Kentucky and Louisiana, the bigger states today, but only by narrow margins. The finish in Louisiana was particularly noteworthy. Trump had built up a big lead in the early voting, so big that the networks called it for Trump almost immediately on that basis, but Trump’s margin steadily eroded away as the votes that has been cast today came in. This was a sign that something had hurt Trump over the last several days–there are many things to choose from, but the debate looms particularly large. (The divergence between the early voting and the voting today is also a textbook case of why early voting is a bad idea.) Cruz’s big margins in his states and Trump’s narrow margins in his states mean, importantly, that Cruz gained on him a bit in the delegate count.

The other big story was the collapse of Marco Rubio, who wasn’t a factor anywhere. Something has clearly hurt him, whether the tone of his attacks on Trump, Trump’s constant belittling of him, his lackluster debate performance, or all of the above. Absent a surprise on Tuesday or a fantastic debate next week, Rubio is going to be limping into the political fight of his life in Florida a week from Tuesday.

Even Bush family can see the writing on the wall, it’s just not the year for a patrician northeast republican family!
Jeb has not endorsed, he hates Rubio for not waiting his turn and the Bushes don’t like Cruz because he is an actual conservative, something the Bush family does not understand!
They really thought a family dynasty was in the offing, they could not have been more wrong, we are done with the Clinton, Bush era!

Why must Cruz dupporters hurl insults at Trump supporters...

They shouldn’t.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with calling out people for their comments. That is not insulting them. It is defending from unsults.

“I’m very concerned something fishy is going on with LA being close. I dont trust the establishment at all.”

What was going on, one of the things, was that Moon Griffon, the statewide radio show host, had been slamming Trump for weeks, praising Cruz for weeks, and giving his show over to people to slam Trump, much like what Rush Limbaugh does. Griffon also gave an interview of Cruz just before his show ended Friday.

The Robertson clan put out many ads in support of Cruz. I suppose they, like a lot of people, were taken in by Cruz’s religious jive talk.

But I’m not talking about Goldwater. And I’m not talking about Reagan. I’m talking about Trump

My point remains the same, true then, and true now.

We all know where Rich Lowry and the National Review stands.

On the side of conservatism. Cruz is the only conservative in the race with a chance.

National review is not what it used to be. Ever since 2008, when they endorsed Romney. Since then, I have never heard or seen them this animated about Obama and the things that he has done. Didn’t see Rich Lowry and his ilk on Fox rabidly going after Obama. Didn’t see any special issues having a collection of editorials about Obama. No, they only get this upset about a businessman running in the GOP primary.

Do you think that all of the Rubio votes will automatically go to Cruz? When Yeb dropped out, a large majority of his votes went to Trump.

No the national, review and others like them can only fight who the voters want, who we want, while they have ignored the left for years.

Why this on junk still keeps posting on here is beyond me and why people on here read that crap is even more stunning.

I think you are wrong, the lack of attack against Obama has a lot to do with race! The first black president goes a long way to block legitimate criticism. The success of blocking political speech through intimidation and cowardice of the republican party and yes even some agreement on trade topics has led to where we are now.
One thing you must understand about the political establishment is the importance they put on connections and friendship in there own class, thus trillion dollar bailouts, massive stimulus programs.
Trump i believe is not anti-establishment, they do not hate him because he seemingly opposes them, it’s because up until now he was just a piggy bank to them, suddenly this ‘political cretin wants into the club’, doesn’t he know his place! Also Trump is a crude neophyte, with the sensibilities of Vinny the cat-caller stand in front of the corner drug store scream epithets at his betters and flipping the bird and shouting ‘stupid kunt’ to females who turn there nose up at him!
Money can’t by friends, but it can buy sycophants and like any celebrity Trump has those in spades!!!

Why must tRump supporters hurl insults at Cruz supporters, and you did start it.

Look at what you wrote and figure it out.You can't even spell TRUMP's name in a way that is not offensive. Why is that, it's not even clever.

Personally, I think we need a "crude neophyte" right now. Too much of this "my esteemed colleague", "reaching across the aisle", and overall fear of the press and democrats. The current crop of pols and media like NR, Weakly Standard, and WSJ helped create the popularity of Trump by going against the will of the people and constantly letting us down. If they showed any semblance of a spine and fought as hard as the RATS do, Trump would be a non starter.

I can see your reasoning why they didn't go after Obama at first (Rush was one of the few who showed guts), but its been 7 years since and a lot of other publications have no fear.

You don’t have to be crude and brash to be successful, but i fear that the Nation agrees with you. I can see it now, some opponent ‘Putin say’ makes a derogatory statement about Trump and Trump first response is to stoop to the level of Vinny the cretin ‘FU Putin’ that’s just what we need!
There are ways of responding very force-ably without stooping to the lowest class possible.
I honestly fear that is impossible for Trump not to do, i fear he can’t help himself.
Like the debate last Thursday, ‘little Rubio, little Rubio’ , ‘liar liar liar, pants on fire’. Did Trump ever grow up!

That still sounds like a screwy way to do things. I think Cruz excels in quirky situations.
