I think you meant to say, Mitt is washed-up. Saying “finished” implies his was a recent occurrence.
Not necessarily a fan of Trump’s, but once the ultimate leader of the establishment money bosses and insider power brokers spoke, it became clear that they would rather maintain the system in place by trying to throw the election to Hillary. Romney is a two-time loser and failure, why would anyone pay any attention to him at all!

I have major concerns about Trump being what this nation needs, but Romney should have stayed out of it. Let the current candidates take care of this election’s business.

If the Republicans in “leadership” really don’t want Trump, then they should put forward other candidates who truly make many of the arguments that he does and who stand by them.
Instead, the attack the evangelical Christian base. It’s not just Trump and his supporters who they despise, but also Cruz and his supporters as well.
In essence, the GOP elites have decided it’s time to stop representing evangelical Christians and to try to ridicule and suppress us out of existence, as if they could.

seemed to try to allay a tiny bit of the wound with a “kind”
