Ted Cruz: Just say no to a contested convention; That's Not How You Win
Hotair ^ | 03/05/2016 | Jazz Shaw

Posted on 03/05/2016 4:39:02 PM PST by SeekAndFind

Pretty much every speaker at CPAC this year has caused some sort of a stir, which seems to define the nature of the presidential race which framed it. Ted Cruz was no exception, with plenty of fans clogging the path to the ballroom where he spoke as the Secret Service labored to get everyone scanned and checked through metal detectors at the door. Things got a bit spicy when he went after Donal Trump and a number of Trump supporters got up and left the hall, but for the most part Cruz received a very warm reception.

In a separate set of comments, however, Cruz was asked about the now endless speculation over a brokered convention. He wasn’t having any of it.

Ted Cruz flatly rejected the idea of a contested convention on Friday at CPAC, warning that it would lead to a “manifest revolt” against Republican establishment figures who have floated the idea as a last-ditch vehicle to stop front-runner Donald Trump.

At a question-and-answer session with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the Texas senator said Trump must be defeated at the ballot box.

“Any time you hear someone talking about a brokered convention it is the Washington establishment in a fevered frenzy. They’re really frustrated because all of their chosen candidates, all of their golden children, the voters keep rejecting. And so they seized on this master plan,” Cruz said mockingly. “We go to a brokered convention and the DC power brokers will drop someone in who is exactly to the liking of the Washington establishment. If that happens we will have a manifest revolt on our hands. That's not how you win. ”

[…]

“If you want to beat Donald Trump here’s how you do it: You beat Donald Trump with the voters,” he said.

This is pretty much the opposite of what keeps coming from the Rubio camp. (As well as the hopeful dreams of nearly everyone in the media who would just love the ensuing mayhem.) While it makes for excellent parlor discussions, Cruz is absolutely correct. An outcome such as that will splinter the party, perhaps irreparably. The way to beat any leading candidate is simply to beat them. Get out there and make the sale, close the deal, or however else you wish to describe it. Thus far nobody (including Ted Cruz) seems to have managed the task.

But even if Cruz changes his mind later, let’s not forget rule 40. You need to secure the majority of delegates in at least 8 states in order to be eligible to have your name entered on the floor of the convention this year. Thus far nobody but Trump has managed it or is even close. (Cruz has three.) The Texas senator had a very good appearance at CPAC and clearly he has a lot of fans. This weekend and over the next ten days we’ll find out if he can translate that into some wins.

You rufuted NOTHING.

"Cruz Iowa staffer Spence Rogers sent precinct captains an email during the caucus hinting that Carson planned to leave the race, despite the fact that Carson's campaign said he would continue.

"Breaking News. The press is reporting that Dr. Ben Carson is taking time off from the campaign trail after Iowa and making a big announcement next week," the email, acquired by CNN, read. "Please inform any Carson caucus goers of this news and urge them to caucus for Ted Cruz."

Meanwhile, Cruz surrogate Iowa Rep. Steve King told followers on Twitter that "Carson looks like he is out."

Carson looks like he is out. Iowans need to know before they vote. Most will go to Cruz, I hope. https://t.co/lW5Js50EMA— Steve King (@SteveKingIA) February 2, 2016

Carson told Fox News his wife, Candy, had to correct the misinformation at one event.

"She spoke at one of the caucus sites and before she got there one of the Cruz people had again disseminated that information to the crowd," he said. "And one of the organizers told her 'I'm so glad you're here, so you could set the record straight.' And she did and we actually won in that precinct."

Carson's campaign was furious when they first learned of the tactic, and Carson decried it as a "dirty trick" during remarks Monday night at a party with supporters in West Des Moines.

"This is really a dirty trick," Carson said. "This makes me more determined than ever to keep going."

Cruz's campaign defended the Rogers message to the precinct captains.

"Carson said he was taking time off to go home. We simply repeated what he said," Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Monday. "Our email simply stated the facts."

When asked what the "big announcement" mentioned in the email referred to, Frazier did not respond."

Jeff Roe Linked Once Again To Political Lies
http://www.yeoldejournalist.com/23653-2/

This is not the first time that a Jeff Roe run campaign has been accused of leaking to the press that a candidate running against them was quitting the race. In 2010, a press release was sent to KSPR that appeared to be from the Scott Eckersley campaign that noted he was dropping out. KSPR ran the story in the morning news and Eckersley was put in damage control in the final days of the campaign.

Donald J. Trump

RESPONSE TO THE LIES OF SENATOR CRUZ:

Ted Cruz is a totally unstable individual. He is the single biggest liar I've ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. His statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous. It is hard to believe a person who proclaims to be a Christian could be so dishonest and lie so much.

Cruz said I would be appointing a liberal judge when in fact I will appoint a great conservative and I am the only candidate who has gone so far, at the debate, as to suggest two individuals I feel would best represent the conservative values we need to protect: William "Bill" Pryor Jr. and Diane Sykes.

Cruz says I am pro-choice, when in fact I am staunchly pro-life and have been for a long time. Like Ronald Reagan, on many issues, I have evolved.

Cruz says I am in favor of ObamaCare, when in fact I have spoken about repealing and replacing this disaster of a system at every speech throughout my campaign and since it's inception. Meanwhile, Cruz was responsible for getting Bush to put in the judge that failed to vote against ObamaCare twice.

Cruz says I will try to take away your second amendment rights, when I am one of the strongest proponents of the right to bear arms and I say so in every speech that I have made for years. I am a proud member of the NRA and so are my sons.

Cruz has become unhinged and is lying with the hopes that his statements will go unchecked until after the election and he will save his failing campaign.

In Iowa, Cruz told thousands of Ben Carson voters that Dr. Carson had left the race and to instead vote for Ted Cruz. He apologized when the race was over. Likewise, his fraudulent voter violation form sent to Iowa voters. If Ted is going to continue to lie with such desperation, I have no choice but to fight back.

One of the ways I can fight back is to bring a lawsuit against him relative to the fact that he was born in Canada and therefore cannot be President. If he doesn't take down his false ads and retract his lies, I will do so immediately. Additionally, the RNC should intervene and if they don't they are in default of their pledge to me.

I am the strongest on the borders and I will build a wall, and it will be a real wall. I am strongest on illegal immigration, strongest on ISIS, strongest on the military and I will take care of our Vets. I will end common core and preserve the second amendment. I will renegotiate our trade deals and bring our jobs back to our country. I am the only person who will Make America Great Again.

Is there some actual proof of this in detail?

Something is odd about it. I think it’s crooked GOPe games, but there should be some actual evidence

Typical tRump supporter. You lost, get over it. Nobody cheated you out of it. Kansas just didn’t like the Donald.

The problem is too many of these tRump supporters are living in an echo chamber. They hang out on their “safe” thread and tell each other how great they are and how great the Donald is. If they happen to catch someone saying differently, like Mark Levin, that tRump’s not all that great they immediately call them names and say they’re just part of the GOPE.

It comes as a shock to them when the real world intervenes and they find out not everybody loves the Donald. In that case it must be because the “establishment” cheated.

The funny thing is the Donald is the textbook definition of a crony capitalist, the very people they claim to hate.

So what. Jeff Sessions is from Alabama. Did he cheat to make sure the Donald won Alabama.

Get over it, you lost, and posting this kind of garbage should be beneath you but I guess it isn’t.

It might be that Ted’s actions are why Sessions endorsed Trump and not Ted.

If Trump were engaged in the kind of crap Ted/Jeff Roe has pulled it would be screamed from the housetops.

Well it is odd, I will give him that.

Now I personally think that the Gope has indeed resorted to full-out fraud as well. a 20% surge in 24 hours simply does not happen. No polling outfit is THAT off, and I think many Cruz people likely have a gut feeling of this as well.

But all theories people put forward will have to furnish some hard proof. Seeing that it was likely the Gope that was behind it, it was likely sloppy and will be found out if someone digs hard enough.

But until then, it is only hunch.

Interesting. Someone says something openly and yet people think he means something else.

That's all Cruz can do is force a brokered convention. No matter what he says, it obvious what his plan is.

A comment on your last sentence again:

That’s a very intelligent decision.

I think it is entirely possible that the eGOP will try to mold him to fit that description.

They hate him less than hey hate Trump.

As an aside, Trump is the reason Megyn Kelly got a dyke haircut to make her look more like her hero Rachael Maddux and also why she wears depends.

Trump has an interesting effect on her and her vitriolic hatred is burning a hole in her soul.

If Cruz falls for it and becomes close to being the nominee, the eGOP will work to destroy him as they don’t want to be in control with having an Republican in the white house.

And it’s possible that Cruz could beat Hillary.

Trump probably could also if they can beat the odds stacked against them with the massive voter fraud that will insue in the general.

Obama has been building the illegal alien dem voter base with the millions of illegal alien criminal insurgent America haters he has been inviting to the USA.

It’s much easier for them to be #2 (double entendre pun intended) because they are lazy and spineless and don’t want the responsibility of that much power.

Has that been confirmed and documented?

There is some chatter about it not being true and it seems there is no proof offered that I know of.
