National Poll: Clinton, Sanders Both Top Trump

By Jennifer Agiesta, CNN Polling Director Wed March 2, 2016

Both of the remaining Democratic candidates for president easily top Republican front-runner Donald Trump in hypothetical general election match-ups, according to a new CNN/ORC poll

Clinton tops Trump 52% to 44% among registered voters Washington (CNN)Both of the remaining Democratic candidates for president easily top Republican front-runner Donald Trump in hypothetical general election match-ups, according to a new CNN/ORC Poll.

But Hillary Clinton, who is well ahead in the Democratic race for the presidency, would likely face a stronger challenge should Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Texas Sen. Ted Cruz capture the Republican nomination for president.

In the scenario that appears most likely to emerge from the primary contests, Clinton tops Trump 52% to 44% among registered voters. That result has tilted in Clinton's favor since the last CNN/ORC Poll on the match-up in January.

But when the former secretary of state faces off with either of the other two top Republicans, things are much tighter and roughly the same as they were in January. Clinton trails against Rubio, with 50% choosing the Florida senator compared to 47% for Clinton, identical to the results in January. Against Cruz, Clinton holds 48% to his 49%, a slight tightening from a 3-point race in January to a 1-point match-up now.

They didn't think Trump would be the GOP nominee either!

Like we are to believe that Rubio would beat Hillary in a match up?

These head to head polls are meaningless. If Trump gets the nomination he’ll carry states not carried by a republican since Reagan. Cruz or Rubio can’t do that. Trump is Clinton’s worst nightmare. And anyone believing a socialist would beat any republican aint playing with a full deck. For any dem to win they have to get republican votes. I have never in my life ran across a republican that would vote for a socialist/communist. The man who the MSM keeps saying can’t win is the man who can win. All polls said Jimmy Carter would beat Reagan. What happened.

For Cruz to withstand the attacks from Trump and Rubio in January and only lose 2 points and still be beating Clinton is remarkable. The Dems won’t have much more than that to throw at him.

Rubio has radically altered his style in the last couple weeks, so we’d have to see how that affects his numbers.

While I prefer Cruz, I don’t believe Hillary beats Trump. I don’t believe she beats any Repub this season, but against Trump I believe we will see Dems crossing over.

I obviously can be wrong, but I will be surprised if I am wrong. The enthusiasm on the Dem side is with Sanders, whereas her support is more pro forma. A more even match would have been Jeb versus Hillary, pro forma versus pro forma, boring versus boring. I don’t believe Hillary’s support is that strong in terms of enthusiasm, I think a significant number will sit out if its Cruz or cross over if its Trump.

What are you talking about? Obama won twice and he is a socialist/communist.

The attacks on Trump from the left haven't even begun and he's already deep in the hole. He would experience a record-breaking landslide defeat like we haven't seen in modern times.

Numerous polls show Trump leading in a primary election. Trump fans welcome the polls. Trump goes on to win the primary as predicted. Trump fans celebrate.

Every poll by every polling company show HRC easily beating Trump in the general. Trump fans scream "Lie"! and fling poo.

The Dole/McCain/Romney “crossover” strategy fails every time and you want to try it again? Definition of insanity.

You can ONLY win by exciting and energizing your base and then pulling a segment of independents over with the infectious enthusiasm. That’s how Obama did it. The base also loved W. and Reagan. Meanwhile exit polls show more Republicans would never vote for Trump in a primary than are voting for him.

The polls say otherwise. Rubio and Cruz are narrowly beating her, while she easily beats Trump.

But data and facts have no place when discussing Trump the Lightbringer.

“Americans?”

I’d need to see their papers.

They seem to want to destroy America by electing a con man, so they may be invaders.

Why is CNN bringing up the KKK everyday if they want Trump to win?

Well, yes.

Trump did the same thing last night when this was pointed out. They copy their leader.

When polls are conducted in key bellwether states, Trump is ‘Shlonging’ Hillary like in Ohio and Florida.

“Why is CNN bringing up the KKK everyday if they want Trump to win?”

Because only Democrats watch CNN and Trump’s stupidity neatly fits in with the meme that Republicans are casual racists.

My day to day encounters with random people say that California is in play. For example, this morning I was in the hot tub at my health club with a hispanic mom and daughter. The daughter gave me a well reason explanation of why they will be voting for Trump. This happens to me day after day. Most unlikely people tell me this. People don’t care what anyone from DC says. They are fed up.
