Fox News Demonstrates How To Stop Donald Trump: Graphics!
By Erik Wemple March 3
Expect to see more graphics in Donald Trump interviews from this point onward.
In Thursday nights debate in Detroit hosted by Fox News, the moderator Chris Wallace thought it would be helpful to press the Republican candidate on the math problems in his economic plan. He started out with this inquiry: Mr. Trump, your proposed tax cut would add $10 trillion to the nations debt over 10 years, even if the economy grows the way that you say it will. You insist that you could make up for a good deal of that, you say, by cutting waste, fraud, and abuse, said Wallace, adding like what? The moderator wanted specifics.
Trump whipped out some talking points hes been spewing for months. The Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency, said Trump, would be kaput or at least drastically reduced in a Trump administration. We have various other things, he continued. If you look at the IRS, if you look at every single agency, we can cut it down, and I mean really cut it down and save. The waste, fraud, and abuse is massive.
The moderator wasnt buying. Please put up full screen number four, Wallace instructed his producers. The Education Department, you talk about cutting, the total budget for the education department is $78 billion. And that includes Pell grants for low-income students and aid to states for special education. I assume you wouldnt cut those things. The entire budget for the EPA, the Environmental Protection Agency, $8 billion .The deficit this year is $544 billion. Thats more than a half trillion dollars. Your numbers dont add up, sir.
Busted, Trump limped into another talking point: (Read on....)

Notice they are never worried about how much ACTUAL SPENDING will add to the national debt...
Only when you propose tax cuts do they worry about the national debt.
Has anyone told the moderators that they are not debaters? That it’s their job to prompt discussion topics?
That they aren’t there conducting interviews?
Trump should just say 50% cut in the size of government, across the board.
That should save us a lot right then and there, when all the liberals have a heart attack.
Trump shouldn’t go to any more of these media circuses until a lot of things change and HE is allowed to put up his OWN graphics.
Chris “The Carp” Wallace has managed to “best” Megyn Kelly at being a complete jerk. I thought the “graphics” were completely out of line and further sullied Faux News credibility.
There was also no account of how much $ would be saved by all the regulations that would not be written by a defunct EPA and a defunct Dept of Ed.
Far more than the numbers presented by the dishonest Chris Wallace.
“Trump should just say 50% cut in the size of government, across the board.”
I love that. He sometimes is too polite. I would have been all over those puppies last night. This act Presidential is nonsense after the jerk in office for 8 years. There is no look presidential anymore.
Makes sense. If they are going to put up an argument like this, so should he be able to.
And I think he could put up some smashing graphics if he wanted.
About time Trump was asked real questions and grilled on the his flowery rhetorical answers.
Promising tax cuts without equivalent $$$$ spending cuts is a standard with GOP candidates just as the opposite is true with Dems.
We know he is not going to cut Planned Parenthood’s funds.
‘They do such great work’
Even something like a “happiness quotient” could be estimated.
Where were the graphics contesting the claims of the other candidates???
Seven cents of every dollar goes to SS, Medicare, Medicaid and related programs.
You can cut every single government agency by 10-20-30% and still wouldn’t come close to getting a handle on the deficit or national debt.
Until these entitlement programs are dealt with, all the pontification in the world in regards to cutting waste-fraud-abuse means very little.
“Being asked real questions” is meaningless without ears to hear real answers.
In the meantime all you can do is slide in sly damnations based on mutable meanings of things.
Is there any doubt left that the Republican Party and its media lackeys have been stage managed by forces and factions that spit upon the founding principles of this nation. Oligarchs - Americas aristocracy, Americans monarchy, unmerited power derived from birthright- not ability or intelligence or ethical standards. A state of mind governed by the accumulation of wealth and control of human destinies with allegiance to no nation, no people, no history, no tradition other than the exercise of dominion over the minds of otherwise free and unfettered beings. Now it is their time to watch America rise up in defiance standing shoulder to shoulder against the very evils that our Founding Fathers warned us against in word and deed. Sons of Liberty, grab your manhood and advance upon the forces of Ultimate Stupidity.
Oh yes you could, just by lessening the overhead incurred in welfare.
Let’s not forget that the figures Wallace cited originate with the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which has been wrong about the relationship between tax cuts, revenue and economic growth virtually every time they’ve examined it.
Given the anti/never-Trump fervor of Fox News and the GOP, which becomes clearer with every debate, I hope both of them go down in flames and soon.
“Where were the graphics contesting the claims of the other candidates???”
Exactly. We all know the idea of the so called “debate” was nothing more than a co-ordinated attack against Trump.
FOX should just come out tell everyone that they’re a wholely owned subsidiary of the GOPe, and telemundo and/or univision.
“Trump should just say 50% cut in the size of government, across the board.”
Since the military is part of the government, you would advocate cutting the military by 50%?
