When two suspects tried robbing a Maryland CVS on Friday, Army veteran Joe Morici sprang into action.
And it cost him his job.
Morici, who served seven years in the Army, including a stint in Afghanistan, was fired from his management job at a Beltsville CVS because he intervened and tried to catch the men, FOX5 reported.
But Morici said his reactions were purely based on instinct when two men tried robbing the CVS pharmacy during his shift.
He quickly told cashiers to call 911 and helped an elderly man out of the store before locking the doors, preventing the suspects from leaving. Then he confronted them.

Real nice language. We used to assume that Texas men were, at the very least, gentlemen.
Just moved here, huh?
While CVS can choose what it wants to do, it can’t choose whether it will get shamed.
Today’s fear based culture has a lot to do with it, however. And if most of your business is scaredy cats, then you come down on the side of the scaredy cats.
They technically could hire him back the next day and just say nothing as long as he doesn’t, either. Just sayin’.
Well, Georgia shouldn’t have insulted him first.
When I delivered pizzas for Domino’s on weekends, I carried either a 9MM or a .357. To Hell with the rules when anyone’s life is in danger.
That is just what got the Germans in trouble. Bad rules should be broken, and the consequences graciously accepted.
;-)
Those sort of rules are to protect the company against litigation, not to keep anyone safe. Do what has to be done, and then shoulder the consequences.
Customers are not bound by company rules of engagement.
Still himself and God. A real man does what needs to be done at the time it is required. The rest is just the price of cohabiting this Nation with morons.
Well I guess you better hope Mr. GG2 or I am around to save you from your turn behind the candy counter. Cause it sounds like you and Abu know your limitations. :-)
Waaaaaa! Teacher she won’t let me on the swings. Waaaa!
It has seemed to me, off the subject that CVS prices are really high. Have others noticed this?
I am all for ccw. Employees are under rules customers are not. You can cut the defensiveness.
Not in Maryland. Almost impossible to get one here in the People’s Republic. My on goes to college in Beltsville. My thanks go out to Mr. Morici for helping clean the streets
Well don’t worry there will likely always be somebody around to save you and Abu from the boogey man. Like that poor vet who got fired.
BTW you need to learn the difference between defense and offense. :-)
You think you know who you are talking to, but do not.
You might be fired- but you might be dead before they can do the termination paperwork.
That’s correct. But guns aren’t allowed in certain places of business and if you wont respect the edicts of the place of business then don’t sign-on as an employee there.
..........I’ve been following your comments and find myself wondering about another very possible scenario happening daily in Germany right now and whether or not you would say the same thing to Joe Morci...............i.e. “follow the rules”. Essentially, do nothing.
Let’s say your wife and daughter came in and were shopping and Joe Morci was there and some punk pulled a knife and proceeded to tear at your wife and daughters clothing while threatening them with the knife. Never mind that him doing that presents the possibility of rape or worse let’s just stick with he “merely” tears at their clothes and threatens them with a knife.
Following your logic and CVS Execs logic, Joe Morci would just stand there and watch and do nothing while the cops took several or many minutes to get there.
Indeed, this scenario could happen tomorrow at the same store to “somebody’s” wife and daughter! So, would you, in this scenario, tell Joe Morci that he should stand idly by and “follow the rules”?
With respect to a fellow freeper, I say you and CVS execs and their lawyers and their Insurance Company are dead wrong in this case. “Don’t get involved” is a hypocritical, highly selective policy.
We’re not talking about Germany here. We are talking about the right of a business owner (in this case CVS Drug) to establish policy and have an employee/manager abide by it. It’s black and white despite many here who want to introduce emotional concerns into the argument over businesses rights to conduct their business as they see fit.
I say, if you want to have a business that permits concealed carry or even open carry, be my guest, it’s your business and it’s your private property. If you specify that an employee may challenge a suspected robber, or shoplifter, you may do that too provided that employee isn’t violating local law in doing so.
CVS’s concern, like my “super-center’s” concern is that someone innocent may be injured while trying to defend the customers and/or employees from the armed attacker. Especially when the popo shows up and you’re holding a weapon. You may be misread as the perp instead of the defender and wind-up with lead in your head.
Joe Morci picked his hill in the heat of the matter and lost. I’m sorry for Joe and I wish him well in his new position.
