When two suspects tried robbing a Maryland CVS on Friday, Army veteran Joe Morici sprang into action.
And it cost him his job.
Morici, who served seven years in the Army, including a stint in Afghanistan, was fired from his management job at a Beltsville CVS because he intervened and tried to catch the men, FOX5 reported.
But Morici said his reactions were purely based on instinct when two men tried robbing the CVS pharmacy during his shift.
He quickly told cashiers to call 911 and helped an elderly man out of the store before locking the doors, preventing the suspects from leaving. Then he confronted them.

Many retail outlets without a trained security guard have similar rules as CVS.
Cost him his job but also got him a better job!
Oh, by the way, here is a rating site for VA hospitals.
You follow the employer’s rules regarding such events or you get fired. Simple as that. Rule #1. Follow the rules.
We don’t really know that policy is automatic termination, do we, since CVS declined to comment.
I would have done the same thing he did, and I’m a female. Of course I worked in a prison, but your first action, if possible, is to contain the scene, and perps, which is what he did by locking the doors with them inside. To me he did everything right.
It is at my store (not a CVS) and it is enforced. We confront shoplifters daily although I have yet to come face to face with an armed assailant. One day that WILL happen and if I react in the manner of this man I WOULD be fired.
I think you are lost. Salon.com is over there. Buy bye lefty. :-)
If you come in contact with an armed assailant I’ve got ten bucks that says you keep your job but pee your pants. Hopefully they will be so amused they won’t shoot you. :-)
You are right on this one.
Bad guy starts cutting people, shooting people, hurting old or young or weak people...last thing you better be thinking about is hanging on to the job, for heaven’s sake.
He knew the rules. Just saying.
“To me he did everything right.”
Until the perp takes hostages and people start getting killed. Stores have the policy for a reason. I know it galls people to see thugs getting away with robbery but that’s what insurance is for. Dead customers are bad for business.
KMA Georgia.
More from the link; good on him!
“...The two kids ran into the door, which was closed now, and Joe got one of them and had him, Chick Hernandez, a customer in the store at the time, told FOX5. The kid, he had said to his partner, Shoot him. And then Joe said, Ive been in the military far too long. You dont have anything.
It turned out there was no gun, though one of the suspects held a screwdriver.
I dont really know that they didnt really have one, Morici said. I just kind of assumed.
Morici grabbed the screwdriver, but eventually the men got away.
When Moricis boss arrived, however, Morici said he was told he was being terminated because of his actions.
My boss, when he came in to deliver the news, he was sick to his stomach, Morici said. He didnt want to, but he didnt have a choice.
In a statement to FOX5, CVS said it would not comment on specific security procedures or polices as we do not want to undermine them.
Morici said since news of his heroics went public hes received numerous job offers and interview opportunities. Hes also applied for a position with the Prince Georges County Police Department.
My Facebook has been blowing up from people all over the country just thanking me and reposting it, Morici said. Ive got people from Wichita, Kansas to the Philippines. People back home are calling me. It blew up way bigger than I ever thought it would.”
Peasants and sheep sit idly by as evil happens.
Citizens do what they can to prevent it.
Which are you?
Nobody has a CHL?
Yeah, because they won't be around to pay for that insurance via their purchases. The consumer ends up taking it in the shorts as usual.
bkmk
The gentleman was no longer in the Armed Forces. His new master was CVS and he agreed on hire to comport himself with the rules of that company. He didn’t and he got fired.
While I sympathize with his plight, he had an obligation to abide by the rules of his employer’s contract with him. That may go against your empathetic reaction to this story but it is what it is. Sorry.
“KMA Georgia”
Look Abu. can I call you Abu? OK then Abu you might want to be a little more respectful because when the armed assailant is having his way with you behind the candy counter you will pray for me or Mr. GG2 to be there with a weapon to save your butt. We do frequent CVS and always in an armed way. :-)
