Mitt Romney is the human embodiment of the Republican Party’s Trump terrors
washingtonpost.com ^ | March 3 at 9:42 AM | Philip Bump

..snip...

What Trump has done is revealed how little power is left in the Republican Party. Trump doesn't need donors, as he likes to brag. His dismissal of Romney's speech is the dismissal of the guy who knows he was being used. Trump, like most big donors, secretly understood that he was being used, and now he's more than happy to point it out.

...snip... But perhaps Romney's biggest objection is that Romney is a product of the Republican establishment and he recognizes the threat posed by Trump.

If Trump wins the nomination -- which is more likely than not -- the Republican Party will stumble. If Trump wins the presidency, he will have enormous say in what the party looks like from top to bottom. The party will still have enough power to facilitate Senate, House, state and local races nationwide. But it will be an appendage of Trump. If Trump endorses a Herman Cain for Senate over a sitting representative who has worked his way through the system for two decades, what's the party going to do?

The paths worn down over a century, paved with contributions from donors and with routes driven by endorsers, will be handed over to Trump.

That's the party's fear. And it's a valid one.

I just got an email from Rinse and Repeat this morning asking for my input into picking a new Supreme Court Justice. I sent him a reply that not to worry he won’t need my input because President Trump will be picking the next Justice. LOL!

Voting for Trump is my payback to the Republican Party for ramming Romney down my throat in 2012.

One liberal Republican attacking another liberal Republican. The other responding in kind with his trademark Trumper-tantrum. BFD!

The fact is, Mitt is a loser and Trumpy wants to continue that trend against Billary. That is, right after he does his best to blow up the GOP and remake it in his image... bully-buffoon. Well, so far, he’s doing a good job.

Go Ted.

Yes, but a Trump presidency would be the end of their power.

I think you underestimate their resistance to fumigation.
Lay low for a couple years and this too shall pass.

There really is a simple answer to Mitt.

Mitt, you are very harsh in your criticism of me or any other candidate that is outside of the “inner circle” of the establishment. As your past campaigns have shown and your current course of action shows, you will to any length to degrade and demonize anyone who would challenge the power of the elites.

What a pity that you were and are unwilling to go to those lengths against those truly destroying the country. The voters trusted you to bear the standard in 2012 and you utterly lacked the vigor and energy to make the case needed to unseat Obama. You seem only to find that vigor to trash and criticize when it applies to those not handpicked by the elites. That is why the voters rejected you in 2012 and why, quite frankly, they will likely do so again now.

When insurgents attack and a group of people, some are thinking...wow, what happened? What did WE do to trigger this? We have a similar analogy with the GOPe. What did WE do to set off the insurgents (Trump and other 'outsiders')?

Except in this case, the GOPe sent many so-called conservatives to Congress, then they folded like a cheap tent and/or incumbent Republicans did not support them - or even attacked them. Leadership caved (Boehner, McConnel, and recently Ryan) to Obama, Reid, and Pelosi. The people revolted and attacked the GOPe via the TEA Party and the Trump Tidalwave.

But, the GOPe refuse to answer the issue of “Hey, what did WE do to trigger this?”. The GOPe needs some introspection - a concept which they absolutely cannot grasp. They are genetically incapable of understanding the anger of "the great unwashed" whom they failed.

Trump is a symptom, not the illness.

Romney was - and still is - a dismal failure, not a just-in-time Super Hero.

If Romney had attacked Obama then like he is attacking Trump now, things may have been different.

I like this article which ends with

“Mitt should crawl back into his hole and not come out until next groundhog day.”

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2016/03/romney_to_give_major_speech_trashing_trump.html

Romney, the guy would not go after Obama as badly as he is now going after Trump, is a piece of human debris.

The GOP deserves to be completely destroyed. Cruz won’t be doing that. It’s essential for the survival of our country. Country BEFORE party.

Romney makes his money hiring minimum wage staff to sell Made in China office products. That is his hiring model.

Trump's buildings are built inside the USA and with American workers - that BS about the illegal Polish workers was the fault of a subcontractor 35 years ago.

I don't think the Polish workers were ever deported either.

It kind of seems to me Romney ordered Rubio-bot to take down Trump before Super Tuesday and Rubio-bot failed and now Romney decides “if you have to do a job right, do it yourself”.

It’s the rejection of the donor class that has the GOPe freaked out. Trump has taken the GOP’s establishment cards and is playing 52 card pick up with them. The GOP aren’t the bully now. They are the skinny freshman and don’t know how to deal with the bully.

The GOP establishment (I thought) are employees of the GOP voters. Must the GOP base now fight Big Govt as well as Big Party?

Maybe there was never any difference. We have seen the enemy and it is the Beltway establishment.

The GOPe consider themselves employees of the donor class. The base/GOP voters are just the rubes they use every few years for votes.

I used to think that the Hollywood portrayals of the corruption in Washington, DC was hyperbole for dramatic purposes.

I guess it wasn't.
