The Republicans' 2012 nominee Mitt Romney has readied some strong words to use against Donald Trump when he delivers his 'state of the 2016 race' speech this morning in Utah.
'Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud,' the former Massachusetts governor is expected to say, according to an early copy of the speech given to Bloomberg. 'He's playing the American people for suckers.'
Romney, in this new attack dog role, even plans to go after Trump's trademark 'Make America Great Again' ball cap.
'He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat,' Romney will say, according to ABC News.
For his part, Trump has already prepped a response, doing the morning show rounds calling Romney a 'stiff' and a 'catastrophe.'
Trump went on the Today Show, Good Morning American and Morning Joe and each time hit Romney for losing the last presidential election.
'That was an election that should have been won by Republicans. He was a catastrophe,' Trump said on Morning Joe.

Trump also sent out several tweets this morning labeling Romney the 'establishment,' not a popular moniker for voters this year, and reminding supporters that the 2012 GOP candidate had sought out Trump's endorsement during the last cycle.
Yeah the guy who lost a slam dunk election against the most corrupt incompetent US President in History is really someone voters should be listening to.
Fox Biz. channel has been selling this attack/speech all morning. Saying it at or around 11:30.
The only thing unusual about all this is WHO is doing this kind of stuff this time.
In the past it was us conservatives who were calling McCain, Romney, Dole, ect. every name in the book, accusing them of being frauds, ect. Saying the only reason they are winning is because the conservative vote is being split up between the other candidates in the race, that 60-70% of the votes being cast are against Romney, ect.
The only thing different this time is... OUR guy is winning, and their is FINALLY losing. So it's THEM that is throwing the temper tantrum, threatening to sit out the general election or vote for Hillary, ect.
I am a Cruz suporter, but Romney has no business telling anyone anything.

Fraud is slander, and implies criminality. Stiff is not slander, and is implying someone has no personality, but no criminal. Trump is better on this exchange.

I predict Trump will go up in the polls - again.
Being labelled a fraud and a phony by Mitt Romney is like being called nosy and ugly by an aardvark.

(NEW YORK) — A former Republican nominee for president is set to escalate his attacks on the hopeful nominee Donald Trump Thursday morning. Mitt Romney is expected to say that Trump “gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat” at a speech in Utah.

“Here’s what I know,” Romney is expected to say. “Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.”
Romney will also argue that Trump will lose to “untrustworthy and dishonest” former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee, according to his prepared remarks obtained by ABC News.
Trump endorsed Romney for president back in 2012.
