WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday night that Republicans may have to hold their noses and unify behind Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for president if they want to save their party from Donald Trump.
"Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means," Graham said in a CBS interview. "But we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump."
Graham, who not too long ago was running against Cruz and Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, said it's still a long shot that Cruz could beat Trump. And the Texas senator isn't exactly the most likable Republican in town.
"Short of a major scandal, probably not," said Graham of Cruz' chances. "And if Marco [Rubio] doesn't win Florida, I don't know how he goes forward."
But Cruz has one thing going for him: He's the only candidate who's picked up multiple wins in state primaries besides Trump. As of late Tuesday, Trump had won a total of nine primaries and Cruz had won three. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the next runner-up in the polls, just won his first state, Minnesota.

Linda needs to shut her piehole.
It’s people like her that created Trump. She needs to suck it up and learn.
You said...
“Frankly, it looks to me like the GOP is now going to be officially the populist/progressive party if it doesnt just die.
I think its time conservatives abandon the party and form another party.”
It’s mind boggling to watch people who have railed against and expanded Federal government in the last several years now embrace it as long as “their” guy is running it.
I hope to be proven wrong about Trump. If he gets elected and slashes the debt, gives us balanced budgets, restore and abide by the Constitution, and reform SS and Medicare I would love to come back 4 years later and say I was wrong.
But many of the things I’ve heard indicates he wants to be the one that wields the power of the state much to the cheers of many here
Nicely put. That and if Leslie is willing to play ball with Cruz then you know they can take Cruz in the back room and have a little talk with him. I guess you could call it an ‘attitude adjustment’ meeting. They must be really scared that Trump is going to break up the good ole boy back room poker game. Why is it, they never fought BO this hard? They must not be making out so badly under the current administration. I don’t know what would have them freaking so badly.
I just got through saying your meme! LOL
Lyndsey needs to be house cleaned.
So you're saying that Lindsey can't cry if he wants to?
That State has pure nuts elected Officals
The 4 others, are splitting the Trump opposition, giving him the clear edge.
Or the GOPe and their Cheap Labor Express cabal abandons the party and forms their own. Whichever happens, you can be sure that the GOPe/CLE party is going to be the tiny rump one.
Flimsey, McQueeg, Schumer ... et. al. detest the "Wacko Bird" from Texas.
Ted Cruz was the first POTUS candidate engaged in this fight against the gOpE.
His plan and only plan was to run SEC promary
Linda, it’s not your party anymore.
If I was Cruz I’d be nervous about any plan from Lindsay that involves him getting behind me.
Ted still has a lot of TEA Party congressional support plus he HAS been, unlike the RINO interloper Trump, a Republican for a long time.
Even though the establishment hates both Trump and Cruz, if they favor Trump they abandon party loyalty, solidarity and perhaps even survivability.
Plus polls show Cruz beating Clinton and Trump losing to her.
If the convention is brokered with Ted and Duh Donald having the most delegates, one or the other HAS to be the nominee or there will be a revolution, so it will be Cruz.
Bad news for the Trumpkins but good news for America.
I would like to think Cruz would do as he says, but the handshake with Rubio and some votes he has made make me see him as malleable to the establishment if that is what it takes to win. Would he do the same as President?
On the face of it, as you posed the question, the answer is that apparently, God doesn’t want Cruz
No lindsey, we are taking OUR party back!
Man you are clueless bud. Ruminate on what you just wrote.
Exactly. The GOPe has a pecking order of preference. Jeb was their 1st. He's gone. Now it's down to Rubio and he has a grand total of 1 win. Who remains? Kasich or Cruz, and Kasich has zero wins at the moment.
If those two fall, the GOPe would likely switch support to Hillary. Anything and everything to preserve their power. The public be damned.
Every 4 years they have to put on a little dog and pony show to provide the pretense of the public being in charge. For the Uniparty, this game has worked out well for them over the years. Now Trump comes along and threatens their very cozy setup.
