WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Tuesday night that Republicans may have to hold their noses and unify behind Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for president if they want to save their party from Donald Trump.
"Ted Cruz is not my favorite by any means," Graham said in a CBS interview. "But we may be in a position where we have to rally around Ted Cruz as the only way to stop Donald Trump."
Graham, who not too long ago was running against Cruz and Trump for the GOP presidential nomination, said it's still a long shot that Cruz could beat Trump. And the Texas senator isn't exactly the most likable Republican in town.
"Short of a major scandal, probably not," said Graham of Cruz' chances. "And if Marco [Rubio] doesn't win Florida, I don't know how he goes forward."
But Cruz has one thing going for him: He's the only candidate who's picked up multiple wins in state primaries besides Trump. As of late Tuesday, Trump had won a total of nine primaries and Cruz had won three. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the next runner-up in the polls, just won his first state, Minnesota.

Lindsey is a clown.
It’s not his party anymore.
Don’t be fooled. They may say they support him, but they will wish, long for and work behind the scenes to make sure Clinton wins. Mark my words.
REALITY CHECK——Cruz won AK, TX, OK.....but he acted like HE had swept Super Tuesday.
This was Cruz territory-conservative country-he had launched a huge bid for southern evangelicals.
But they rejected Cruz in favor of Trump on Super Tuesday and in SC.
So if the wise and God-inspired evangelicals didnt want Cruz....why would the rest of America want him?
Linda who hates Cruz how wants to get on board with him to help elect Hillary.
The GOP establishment will never accept a President Cruz.
Cruz is the establishment’s backup plan. They may hate him, but at least he is one of them.
Now he knows how the conservatives in Texas felt in 2008 and 2012 in the general election because the conservatives were already eliminated by the time the Texas primary came in May.
To get Hillary elected, of course. Someone must be the Designated Loser.
To keep the gravy train rolling.
Go away, Nancy!
Lindsey Graham called Hillary Clinton a national treasure.
Correct.
I thought our country was made up of “We, the people” not “We, the party”.....
Frankly, it looks to me like the GOP is now going to be officially the populist/progressive party if it doesn’t just die.
I think it’s time conservatives abandon the party and form another party.
I’m an American first, a religious believer second, a conservative third and a Republican last.
Being a Republican is at the bottom list of what I consider crucial for the well-being of our country.
What he meant, of course, is that they might have to back Cruz to “save” the Republican party from exercising the will of the American people.
That makes me so happy...these morons just don’t get it.
The point of this article was Graham may back Cruz. Never good when Lindsay is on your back...
In other words, the Republican Party would rather lose than win.
And the price of a Trump victory in November is a bridge too far for the party’s leaders to stomach.
The only way to ‘save’ the Republican party is for the GOP leadership and people like Graham to shut up, back off, and let the people decide who they want to represent them.
