President Barack Obama called Democrats and Republicans to the White House Tuesday to discuss election-year standoff over the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Neither side showed signs of budging. In an awkward Oval Office sit-down that lasted less than an hour, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, delivered their case for refusing to consider any nominee to the highest court during the throes of a presidential election. Their Democratic counterparts, meanwhile, resolved to ´continue beating the drum,´ Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid told reporters after the meeting. The gathering was the first time

Good.
If Rubio or Jeb were leading today, does anyone doubt the GOP “leaders” would have crumbled?
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
About time they fight Obummer
I believe nothing the GOP leadership says. Not a thing.
That means (in my opinion ) that maybe they are planning to go into recess and let Obama appoint someone then.....I just do not trust the GOP and what they say and do.....
I bet boy wonder kicks the dog tonight. Watch for something completely off the wall and anti good patriotic policy in the next few days. This guy with throw a tantrum.
Someone commented last night that the GOPe will confirm Obamas SCOTUS nominee once Trump secures the Nomination just too keep him from filling the slot.
Stranger things have happened....
They’ve announced the correct principle and they’re going to stick to it: The American people must be permitted to vote on Justice Scalia’s replacement. So there is no legitimate reason to discuss any potential nominee at this point in time.
Obama should call their bluff and nominate Cruz. Let’s see whether or not the Republican leadership would fold or not.
Wow....they found ONE ball between them.
But Obama would not want to see Cruz on the Supreme Court. He wants to appoint a 5th liberal, not replace Scalia with another conservative. I think Obama would rather leave the seat vacant rather than appoint a conservative.
Exactly, they would have folded and we would now have Holder on the Supreme Court.
Yeah, like POTUS Trump announcing the expansion of the SCOTUS to 13 Justices and daring the Senate not to approve his nominees. I think he has the cojones to do exactly that.
but Obama is taking the Rolling Stones to Cuba with him on the tax payers dime
Trump effect!
Under the 20th Amendment, the new Senate will be sworn in on January 3. The new President will not be sworn in until January 20.
If the Democrats retake the Senate, then Senate Majority Leader Chuckie Schumer will have three weeks to easily push through confirmation of Obama’s nominees for every court vacancy, from the Supreme Court down to the district courts.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Elections have consequences... Obama lost. About time the Republican used some of the political capital we, the PEOPLE, have given them.
