With the lower fuel costs they ought to be making money now.

The Post Office is actually smart because when some future U.S. government discards the dollar altogether in order to cancel our foreign debts and offer new scripts, at least you’ll still be able to use those Forever stamps to complain to your government.

No wonder the stamps you buy now say FOREVER.
I guess that means I can't get a refund....

complicated surcharges for odd sized envelopes
Our company sent out some oversized mailings. They were $1.51 when inserted into the envelope in one direction, but $2.14 if turned around and inserted the other way. (???)

That is one of the sad results of the Digital Age. No longer will families cleaning out a dresser or attic come across a stack of love letters or correspondence from a parent/grand-parent/etc.
Just Grandma's old iPhone. And no way to crack the encryption.

I suspected there was a reason behind them promoting ‘Forever’ stamps - stock up at current prices.

It’d be 20 cents if all the postal employees who do nothing to actually forward the mail were fired.

The great thing is they deliver "Prime" on Sundays. I'm not sure you're allowed to say anything good about the Postal Service on FR. Heh.

"wrong."
Ah, posting replies Emily Dickenson style.
But does that "wrong" mean I'm not a letter-writer? Or is it wrong for me to be a letter-writer?
Or am I wrong about the current price? Is that it Lassie? Is it Timmy? In the well....?

See, if I had told you the answer, it probably wouldn’t have registered. But by engaging you at this level, it becomes a teachable moment.
The price went from 46 to 49 and will now drop to 47. So the people will think they are saving 2 cents, but will actually be paying one cent more than they used to.
That’s a government reduction. Just like a cut in government spending doesn’t mean a reduction, it means that the increase will not be as high as it might have been.
