"The GOP Is On The Verge Of A Meltdown": Senior Republicans Threaten To Vote For Hillary
Zero Hedge ^ | 02/29/16 | Tyler Durden

With Donald Trump set for a yuuge victory in tomorrow's Super Tuesday slugfest - oddsmakers see 80% chance of Trump being the nominee - tensions are mounting dramatically within the Republican establishment. As The FT reports, many mainstream Republicans believe Mr Trump would struggle to beat Hillary Clinton and are urgently rallying around their man Rubio with some senior Republicans saying privately that they might consider voting for Mrs Clinton if Mr Trump were to end up as their party nominee as one conservative commentator exclaimed "we are on the verge of a real meltdown in the Republican party."

Trump's lead in the polls over his GOP nominee 'peers' continues to grow...

Source: RealClearPolitics

As The FT reports, while Mr Rubio and Mr Trump ramp up their attacks on each other ahead of the March 1 primaries, Republican grandees and lawmakers are turning to the Florida senator as they become increasingly worried that the property tycoon could lock up the GOP presidential nomination within three weeks.

They fear that a victory for Mr Trump could fatally fracture the party and prevent them from winning the White House in November.

Many mainstream Republicans believe Mr Trump would struggle to beat Hillary Clinton, the clear Democratic frontrunner after her resounding victory over Bernie Sanders in South Carolina on Saturday, given the comments he has made about Hispanics, Muslims, women, disabled people and people who have criticised his campaign.

But, as the following chart shows, it's far too close to call...

These are people who call themselves conservative Republicans.

They would rather have Hillary.

Makes one proud to be a conservative Republican, doesn’t it?

NO. Proud to be an American and vote for Trump to kick their butts to the gutters!

What these guys are saying is basically that a Republican must go around saying nothing but nice things about every balkanized group in the country, or the Democrats win. They think it all comes down to war on women and minorities, and that if the GOP doesn’t kiss up to them, or God forbid they even slightly insult them, the GOP thinks it doesn’t deserve to win.

Name named. IF they are so “principled” let the cowards come out of the shadows. But of course that would require them to put their party position and perks on the line so like all cowards they will keep hiding in the shadows

Real simple. You don’t get to use the party for your political advantage then betray it when your choice doesn’t win an election. Political parties are not “my way or the high way” position. They are a collection of interests. If you lose, you don’t get to decided to betray the party choice and stay in the party.

Now, if they want to resign their position and their membership in the GOP then run an independent campaign for the office, that would be a principled thing to do. But these gutless parasites will never do that.

As if this election cycle isn’t crazy enough already, some are encouraging Michael Bloomberg to run for President. Others are trying to draft him. He is very rich like Trump, can support his own campaign, and in addition to business success has more general experience as a big city Mayor. Of course there are a lot of things that FReepers don’t like about him, but here is information on this effort. There are a whole series of stories here:
