My fear? His supporters will NOT be disillusioned, but will adapt to whatever he becomes, no matter how far it takes them from the home fires of conservatism.
Peace,

I agree - it’s a take off on liberals talking about ‘common sense’ restrictions of the Second.
And yeah, I could come up with some that could be marked to people who are unaware of how important the First is...
It was a taunt... I was playing off liberal matras about restricting the Second. I’m a firm believer in the First. That said, I’m sure I could come up with some stuff that might sound OK to a person who hadn’t thought about how important the First was...
I don’t want a president to “get things done” in Washington. That means deals with dems. I want to undo things, not do things
Cruz has great lawyer accomplishments. He has never done anything outside the courtroom or politics.
This is EXACTLY what deal maker and RINO extraordinaire Donald Trump will do and the disappointment on FR will be nothing short of phenomenal, people will just be apoplectic and feel so let down with dashed hopes. But it is what it us and we can only sit back now and watch the morass.
Clearly, judging from the comments, Cruz supporters are no longer welcome on FR.
Sad to see this site become so anti-conservative.
Wow! Stop the presses! Mort Zuckerman’s failing, shrinking, unsaleable, uber-uber-lib propaganda sheet attacks Donald Trump again!
Where have you been since June?
“Cruz supporters are no longer welcome on FR.”
The dozen Cruz-trolls who post dozens or even hundreds of posts a day attacking Trump are not appreciated, and they are not Cruz “supporters”, they’re merely Trump-attackers.
A Cruz supporter would makes posts showing the virtues of Cruz and why people at FR should vote for him. I’m not sure there’s a single post per day like that.
I really doubt Trump supporters will be disillusioned, no matter what a President Trump might do. After all, Obama supporters are still supportive no matter what he does or fails to do.

Wow.... Congratulations on now being the owner of Free Republic....
Only the owner would or could make such a statement...
Or are you talking out of your butt....?
Well once you cachet down the hysterical rant you will see that Donald Trump is a natural born problem solver which we sorely need. He will likely be a very competent President.
That is a depressing possibility.
At this point, i'm not sure there is anything to be done about it. Once again, a populist has cast magic on the electorate.
I make posts about why I support Cruz every day and I am attacked by Trump supporters for it every day. They descend on every Cruz thread with their hatred, insults and mockery.
STAY CLASSY, GRACE
Bud, You are one of several cultists I could live without. You haven’t added one thing to the conversation and yet you criticize 2nd Division Vet. I look forward to his posts.
Obama really did deliver on some lasting, liberal objectives.
True enough. But from my perspective his success was with things that matter to the limousine liberals. He broke a lot of the promises that most mattered to his poorer followers -- to prevent foreclosures, eliminate income taxes on seniors making less than $50,000, a bunch of different promises that would lower the prices on drugs, etc. -- many of whom still hung in there with him until well into his second term.
I'm thinking of people like Paul McKinley, Mark Carter, Joseph Watkins and Harold Noonie Ward, who finally spoke up in 2014 about how Obama had failed them, and some of the BLM leaders like Aislinn Pulley, who want nothing to do with Obama. (Can't remember with Pulley, but I remember other people who identified with the Black Lives Matter movement who clearly stated they had voted for Obama -- twice! -- and that they now realized Obama was just another politician.) Or people like Charles Steele Jr., who was a big Obama fan until he realized that Obama was doing serious harm to poor people via the various EPA activities meant to "slow global warming."
Obama failed people like for a long time before most of them were willing to protest, and even when you'd think it was blatantly obvious that Obama is much more about his "legacy" than about helping the poor, some of them still don't really believe Obama realizes the harm he's doing.
