When Demetrius White recently lost his job as a $10-an-hour forklift driver loading pallets of shampoo, he applied for unemployment benefits to help support his family. That aid will not last as long as it once did, because White is among the first group of people affected by a new Missouri law reducing the duration of jobless benefits. His $200-a-week checks will last no more than three months - just half as long as what has typically been available. [...]
States traditionally have offered up to half a year of aid for the unemployed as they search for new jobs. But since the end of the Great Recession, eight states have reduced the number of weeks that people can draw benefits, while others have cut the amount of money the unemployed can collect. [...]
President Barack Obama is pushing in the opposite direction. The White House warns that states are engaging in a "damaging erosion" of unemployment benefits. Obama's budget plan would require all states to provide at least 26 weeks of benefits while expanding coverage to more part-time and intermittent workers. ...

Why the need to extend unemployment, when Obama tells us the economy is doing so well, unemployment is below 5% and all that????
Don’t you know the Party is always right?
You get less of what you tax ...
and a whooooole lot moooooore of what you subsidize.
I'm sure this guy can have his pick of jobs. Why's he worrying about an unemployment check?
Cutting ‘Funemployment’ with summer just around the corner?? OH the Huge Manatee!
Good question.
Look at how the President stepped into the Travon Martin case, the Ferguson shooting, the riots in Baltimore, and a host of other things. His actions were geared toward creating racial divide and hatred of police authority.
Look what his “Justice Department” has done. Ignored voter suppression by Black Panthers, gone into many major cities to destroy their police departments, such as Seattle, Chicago, Ferguson.
Look at some of the “grass roots (actually Astroturf) political movements that the Administration has praised, like “Black Lives Mater” and the protests against big business in “Occupy-Whereever.”
Look at the expansion of food stamps, look at the Obama phones, look at the out of control federal spending. Look at the international trade bills that ship jobs overseas.
There is a strong desire on the part of the Obama Administration and the Democratic party to set up elections as emotional and fearful to the point of economic life threatening events to a whole class of people dependent on hand-outs from the Democratic Party.
There are going to be riots all summer long, if Obama and the Democratic Party gets its way. They will then offer to solve the riots by throwing money at the problem and that will attract the votes of those to whom the money will be throw, and the independent frightened independent voters.
It is going to be a long, hot and deadly summer.
I doubt Demetrius will have problems finding a new job. Entry level with a forklift cert from Osha will be a good resume enhancer.
We hear all the sob stories but how I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall and look at how hard the newly unemployed actually looked for work. If I knew I could site around for 6 months before I even had to consider looking for a job I wouldn’t. I’m naturally lazy even though my choice of careers (self employed manufacturing and engineering consulting) keeps me at the office 70 hours a week most weeks.
I agree.

The national debt is over $19 trillion with far more in unfunded liabilities. And there are the debts of the states, businesses and individuals. It would appear just, that many more people may join White in unemployment.
Very interesting graphics. Thanks.
