A few weeks after Senator Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) 79% joined a bipartisan push for an immigration overhaul in 2013, he arrived alongside Senator Chuck Schumer at the executive dining room of News Corporation’s Manhattan headquarters for dinner.
Their mission was to persuade Rupert Murdoch, the owner of the media empire, and Roger Ailes, the chairman and chief executive of its Fox News division, to keep the network’s on-air personalities from savaging the legislation and give it a fighting chance at survival.
Mr. Murdoch, an advocate of immigration reform, and Mr. Ailes, his top lieutenant and the most powerful man in conservative television, agreed at the Jan. 17, 2013, meeting to give the senators some breathing room.
But the media executives, highly attuned to the intensifying anger in the Republican grass roots, warned that the senators also needed to make their case to Rush Limbaugh, the king of conservative talk radio, who held enormous sway with the party’s largely anti-immigrant base.
The dinner at News Corporation headquarters — which has not been previously reported — and the subsequent outreach to Mr. Limbaugh illustrate the degree to which Mr. Rubio served as the chief envoy to the conservative media for the group supporting the legislation. The bill would have provided a pathway to American citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants along with measures to secure the borders and ensure that foreigners left the United States upon the expiration of their visas.

What was Rush thinking?
He quoted me three times (that I heard) and I was absolutely thrilled. I really thought the world of him and got a kick out of us being his show prep. I’m sad he isn’t the decent person I thought he was. It’s a huge disappointment. I used to hope I could shake his hand one day.
I don’t see how he “walks this back.” I really don’t.
All you have to do is pay a bit of attention, to see that this is true! Anyone with more than 3 working brain cells KNOWS that this is all true, because we've heard/seen the changes in FNC and Rush !

Yes, Levin’s support of Rubio during his senate candidacy is the primary reason I voted for him.
Now I probably would have voted for him without that, because Crist is such a sleaze, but still Mark did push him.
And then for a while after, he was in on the whole my good friend Marco and such...
And then it did seem to cool off and eventually sour altogether.
But that souring didn’t fully set until I’d say about a couple of months ago, or even within the last month.
Now he has openly called Rubio a coward for not coming on his show and a liar, so clearly the friendship has wilted.
But the damage is done. Rubio, the slimy rat, is running for president now, and Levin’s support and my vote helped him get to this point, and I’m not happy about it ;/
It’s really hard to know who to trust these days, and the reason for that is because the GOP and everyone associated with it seem to be a bunch of lying bastards.
Imho, it has always been a serious mistake for us to rely on this uneducated, obese hedonist
to be the arbiter of who is and who is not a conservative candidate for president.

Cruz did not endorse Rubio. He anti-endorsed Trump. Rubio has been horrible to Cruz. HORRIBLE. Of course, so has Trump. Cruz endorses Cruz.

I wonder and applaud the person who leaked this. Hopefully, this will put Rubio down and now question some people’s integrity. I bet that is why some polls kept saying Rubio was best at beating Hillary. The Clintons ammo is always blackmail. This makes me mad.

Levin could tone it down a bit. I find myself switching to classic rock on the radio after their first hour, if not before.

Rubio fooled a lot of people, me included. If anyone in the race is smarmy, it’s Rubio.

This story has been floating around for years. I’ve mentioned out here at least a year or two ago. I’m happy it’s getting traction now. Only new thing I see here is that Rush met Schumer in person....that’s an eye-opener.
