Former Michigan Reps. Courser, Gamrat Face Felony Charges

LANSING (WWJ) – Two former state lawmakers are now facing felony charges in connection with their scandalous love affair.

Attorney General Bill Schuette said his decision comes after a review of emails, phones and computers following the resignation of Tea Party Republican Todd Courser and expulsion of Cindy Gamrat in the fall of 2015.

“Representatives Courser and Gamrat, sadly, failed to serve their constituents in an honorable fashion,” Schuette said, during a news conference Friday. “And, worse yet, worse yet, we allege — and we will prove in court, beyond a reasonable doubt — that they broke the law.”

Courser has been charged with four felonies: perjury for lying under oath and three counts of misconduct for allegeldy lying and instructing people to send out false emails. Gamrat was charged with two counts of felony misconduct in office.

Courser last year admitted to concocting a scheme to spread rumors that he had sex with male prostitutes to distract from, or to cover up, his real with affair with Gamrat.

I wonder if it was the exact reverse. He's trying to cover up that he had sex with male prostitutes. I don't know a hoot about either one of them, all I know is that was a face palm plan.

From the article...”Courser last year admitted to concocting a scheme to spread rumors that he had sex with male prostitutes to distract from, or to cover up, his real with affair with Gamrat.”

Wow, just wow.

Let me see if I have this straight...you’re a straight male (married albeit) and you had an affair with another legislator (female). So to cover it up, you start spreading rumors that you actually had sex with male prostitutes?!

Oh yeah, everyone will think “Oh jeepers, it’s no big deal. He didn’t have an affair with another woman. He had sex with male prostitutes instead. Oh OK, no big deal then!”

Someone this stupid should never hold public office.

These are not mutually exclusive acts.

Yeah, easily disproved. It's an old scheme actually. Throw people off the scent of what is the truth, and when they find out there is no truth to the rumors, then little else is believed that is brought up against them later. Instead they are treated as just more lies leveled against them.

Make more sense now?

For Courser’s failed (and stupid) effort to cover up his affair with Gamrat, he may serve 15 years in prison. I don’t think one should serve prison time for an affair. The punishment should be the loss of public trust and getting voted out of office.

Was she also married? Did she belong to some extremist religious group? I don’t think he should be given 15 years. Sounds like Sharia law to me.

I have no clue, nor do I know what exactly the other charges being leveled against him are. Only that they rise to the felonious level. I doubt the affair is what the 15 years is based upon.

So, they did less than Bill and Hillary did and they are being Indicted. Got it.

“The voters placed a sacred trust in the hands of Todd Courser and Cindy Gamrat when they chose them to serve as their voices in the Capitol,” said Schuette. “But instead of serving their home towns, they served only themselves at the expense of everyone else. “With the filing of these charges, it is my hope that citizens of Michigan see that no one is above the law, not even those who walk in the halls of power.”

Better get started building lots of prisons. By this reasoning you’ll have to arrest and charge the entire regime. They are all liars, thieves and perverts.

BTW, the charges seem excessive for having an affair.

Pretty good barometer of what our society has become.

...the charges seem excessive for having an affair

It's election season, Coursor and Gamrat were Bible toting, Holier Than Thou, Tea Party Republicans...in other words, red meat for foaming at the mouth demonrats looking for a slip-up to make political hay out of it.

Demonrats are good at painting the entire Republican Party with a broad brush, of course that can only work when you have an accommodating media to give you a canvas, which demonrats will ALWAYS have.

That said, Coursor was my State Rep., even had a shot at an open(Rep.)Congressional seat. The betrayal/hypocrisy is one thing, he chose to double-down on the sleaze factor(Clinton style)...and(as usual)it's always the cover-up that turns these things into full-blown scandals...the one he tried to pull out of his butt was a lulu.

BTW, the guy(his "confidant")that recorded their conversation, where Coursor talks about creating this stupid fake(or not)homo scenario in an attempt to hide the affair, comes across as a little "light" himself...which makes one wonder.

Doesn't matter, this is a case where...when you point your finger to judge others, as Courser and Gamrat often did on the floor of the state senate, you open yourself up to being flogged and humiliated for your own failings.

...and while their "personal" issues are none of my business(so long as my tax dollars didn't pay for their pleasures), when it comes to representing me as an elected official, hypocrisy is among my top dis-qualifiers, as it goes beyond the typical sleaze of politics, and right to a persons character, particularly when it comes to making those "back-room" deals these clowns often do.

Bottom-line is...both became blackmail bait for demonrats to use as they choose...since Coursor and Gamrat chose to put themselves in that position, I say(politically)goodbye and good riddance.

As to how it affects my district, we have a LaRaza-type dem(who got clocked by Coursor for the seat)who is now running again in the special election in March, and it looks as though she got herself a ringer this time...a (so-called)Libertarian third-party candidate that will likely take votes from the Republican candidate.

...yet again(unfortunately)stupid actions/decisions often have consequences beyond the individuals own weakness/failings...this one hits home, and if the LaRaza-type 'rat pulls it off...I'm gonna be pissed.
