Donors ask GOP consulting firm to research independent presidential bid - POLITICO

Conservative donors have engaged a major GOP consulting firm in Florida to research the feasibility of mounting a late, independent run for president amid growing fears that Donald Trump could win the Republican nomination.

A memo prepared for the group zeroes in on ballot access as a looming obstacle for any independent candidate, along with actually identifying a viable, widely known contender and coalescing financial support for that person. The two states with the earliest deadlines for independent candidates, Texas and North Carolina, also have some of the highest hurdles for independents to get on the ballot, according to the research.

All this research has to happen before March 16, when inevitably Trump is the nominee, so that we have a plan in place, a source familiar with the discussions said. March 16 is the day after the GOP primary in Florida, a winner-take-all contest that Marco Rubio supporters have identified as a must-win to stop Trump's early momentum.

Its critical some serious attention is given to this, the source said.

The document, stamped *confidential,* was authored by staff at Data Targeting, a Republican firm based in Gainesville, Fla. The memo notes that *it is possible to mount an independent candidacy but [it] will require immediate action on the part of this core of key funding and strategic players.*

Conservative donors Will say this, been really eye opening seeing just how deep the rot has set in. Pretty sad to realize the "conservative movement" leadership servers the same purpose in the GOP that the "Civil rights" leaders serve with the Democrats. Their sole purpose in politics now is keeping certain voter blocks on the Party plantation.

Boy, if they’d spend half the effort fighting the left instead of obunghole, the electorate might have more respect for them. The GOP is dead. This is the last gasps. Good riddance.

I’m sorry but you are a petulant spoiled child who is throwing a hissy bit because your candidate did not win.

Spare us the fake rationalizing about how your potions is anything but a childish act of spite and ego.

Elections matter, you don’t get to change the rules simply because you lost

Don’t think of it as getting rid of Trump.
Think of it as denying the will of the electorate.
Then consider watering the Tree of Liberty.

The GOP and the DEMS are tools, tools for stalwarts who pad their pockets selling out this great nation.... they have no more loyalty to any party than they do anything else, its useful until its not, nothing more.... they know if Trump is the president they lose the power they have spent decades building.... There is nothing they will not do to prevent that.

Yep. Wrapped up in all the fake moralizing it all boils down to childish spite. They did not win so they are am going to make sure their side loses to “get even with them”.

There is no rational, moral argument to justify working to elect someone 100% opposed to your values because the guy on your side isn’t 100% ivory pure.

If and when the GOPe allow this to happen and back it up will do nothing but show the everyday, common American just how much the GOPe cares for them...

This may and should wake up the Americans who think the GOPe is on their side...The GOPe is only on the side of the inside elitists who want to keep the status quo and the American people, who they consider the “unwashed, huddled masses” hoping (as they have for 25 years) that something good will come...But it won’t...

And we say that as people who dragged ourselves out to vote for Romney, Dole, and McCain. And there are VERY few human beings that I loathe more than John McCain.

The “conservative” part of the GOP never existed. That was a construct created by the GOP to convince social conservatives that it was okay for the GOP to collude with all of the other political/financial groups to loot and pillage the economy, while shooting down anyone who said anything to the contrary.

I see it here on FR all of the time. There are regulars here that are pissed off that we won’t just sell everything off to the chinese and mexicans and use that money to gamble on their financial instruments on the stock market.

I’ve seen posters who are pissed that Trump invested in real estate and construction, instead of bankrolling hedge funds.

These types have every right to be scared to death of Trump. He see’s through their bullshit, and so do any ever increasing number of Americans.
