BIRMINGHAM, Ala. â The âsouthern firewallâ Ted Cruzâs presidential campaign has been building for months appears to be crumbling under the weight of Donald Trumpâs staying power and Marco Rubioâs resurgence.
The Cruz campaign told Yellowhammer Wednesday night they are pulling out of the Presidential Forum set to be held at Samford University in Birmingham on Saturday, and will not be holding any other events in Alabama ahead of election day. Senator Marco Rubioâs campaign, however, reiterated their commitment to the event.
The move is one of the most open indicators to date that Cruz has failed to pick up steam in the Bible Belt South, once believed to be his geographic stronghold and his most likely path to the nomination.
Numerous southern states and almost a quarter of the Republican delegates are up for grabs in the so called SEC Primary on March 1st.
Yellowhammer CEO Cliff Sims said Cruzâs exit from the state so close to election day is unfortunate, but not entirely unexpected.
âDecisions like this are difficult for any campaign to make, but they have to do what they think is best,â he said. âOnce a campaign goes into survival mode, sometimes they have to cut their losses and move resources where they can be most effective. A candidateâs time is the most valuable resource any campaign has.â
South Carolina Republican strategist Hogan Gidley said Cruzâs lackluster performance in his home state was the first public sign that Cruzâs southern strategy was not coming together.
âIt does definitely put a dent into the manufactured reputation that Cruz is coalescing all conservatives,â he told National Review. âI think we can put an end to that myth.â
A longtime Alabama political consultant who is not working for a presidential campaign but has seen presidential campaign polling numbers through other state-level campaigns told Yellowhammer Cruzâs path to the nomination could be disappearing.
âIf Cruz â the Texan, the staunch evangelical, the anti-Washington guy â canât win in Alabama and across the South, he canât win,â the consultant said on condition of anonymity so he could speak freely. âIâve seen polling in the last week that shows Cruz in third in Alabama, far behind Trump and behind Rubio, too. It might become apparent after March 1st that Cruzâs goose is cooked.â
Senator Rubio is scheduled to be in both Birmingham and Huntsville on Saturday. Donald Trump is scheduled to be in Huntsville on Sunday. No other Republican candidates are currently scheduled to campaign in the state ahead of the March 1st primary.

Take The World By Force?
False Teaching:
Dominionists teach the Kingdom of God as a literal and physical Kingdom to be advanced on earth in the present age. Some liken the New Testament Kingdom to the Old Testament Israel in ways that justify taking up the sword to war against enemies of their kingdom. They teach that men can and must be coerced or compelled to enter the kingdom.
Truth:
“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.’”
Matthew 26:52
Jesusâs message was: âYou must be born again.â John 3:7
The rebirth cannot come about by force.
After the resurrection of Christ, the Apostles did NOT try to establish the Kingdom through force, in fact most of them were martyred.
And finally, this bears repeating:
âMy kingdom is not of this world.â
John 18:36

Jesus “CAN’T” Come Until...???
False Teaching:
Dominionism claims that Jesus CANNOT return until all His enemies have been put under the feet of the Church.
The Truth:
âThen comes the end, when HE delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when HE puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. For HE must reign till HE has put all enemies under HIS feet.â
1 Corinthians 15:24-25
And not at an appointed time ...???
False Teaching:
His coming is not at an appointed time ordained by God, but he must wait for the subduing of the world by the Church.
Truth:
He IS coming at an appointed time:
“Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, ‘Lord, will YOU at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?’ And He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority.’” (Not ours!)
Acts 1:6-7
There is a set time for Christ to come and restore all. That time hasn’t come yet:
“...that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things...”
Acts 3:20-21
his place is Canada and I wish he would go back home.
Everybody here liked Cruz when he worked to shut down government to force concessions from Obama, helped defeat the gang of 8 bill, and called the turtle a liar.
He isn’t liked by the media or the GOPe who distort his record and comments. I have concerns but I think he has the best actual record of anybody running.
have averaged five of the major polls in Texas as shown on Real Clear Politics from Feb 23rd to Feb 25th. I have found that such a analysis gives a better picture of things.
It is an average of those five polls for anyone to see at the Real Clear Politic site.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/
I just averaged them together.
From the average of those five polls, Cruz is up by over 9 points in Texas.
And Florida, Rubio's home state, is on the 15th, two weeks after supper Tuesday.
It may be very clear to Rubio by then what is going to happen in Florida...in fact, IMHO, given the trends, it is becoming more and more clear now.
I changed my tracking of the polling data after the NV caucus to track the actual votes alone, now that we have four contests behind us and a BUNCH more coming.
Here is what that data shows:
As I say, the trends are pretty clear at this point...Super Tuesday may change that and deflect Trump's rise little, particularly in Texas and a couple of other places...but we shall see.
But, if Super Tuesday shows no deflection, and the same steep inclines for Trump in terms of Delegates and popular vote continues...then the GOPe's hope for a brokered convention will be dashed, as well as any real hope of stopping the Trump juggernaut.
I am just being honest here. I am a Cruz supporter...but this is what the numbers are showing.
Cruz probably does have the best record for a Senator with backers he has to answer to. He supported legalizing immigrants or Rubio's "wall first then we'll talk abut it position" for years then backed off. I assume his sponsors saw that Cruz can't win with that.
But what Cruz can't get out of is his support for TPA. He co-authored an article advocating fast track, pushing for more power for Obama. Then both Cruz and Rubio voted against an amendment to block China from TPP and for cloture on TPA.
Ted Cruz joins the establishment
I know Ted voted nay on the final bill but as I've said before, that's like Pontius Pilate washing his hands after he'd set everything in motion.
Mia, why the animosity for the man?
The problem for Cruz is not enough people like him...including Christian voters...who are voting in mass for Trump. Cruz will lose Texas.
I’m in TX, and I do think Cruz has damaged himself by having his father, and all this TV Televangelist Ted stuff become the face of Ted Cruz.
His being born in Canada, and not letting that cat out of the bad when he ran for the Senate here has cast a shadow on his honesty..plus, the dirty tricks...well, it’s stuck to him now.
In 2012, the largest contributor to Cruz was the Club for Growth which is poison these days. It will be interesting to see if Open Borders business interests wins over Joe Everyman.
Joe’s the guy who lost his job to the H-1b guy from India.
Some people paint.
Gosh, I looked them up, and that sounds exactly like what Pops Cruz, and Ted believe. That is scary stuff.
I believe it is what they believe. And yeah. It *is* scary.
Kinda makes all the accusations against Trump look like projection, too.
BU BYE TEDDY = SUCH VITRIOL.
Really? I don’t need a paragraph analyzing how Cruz is such a good candidate. He isn’t, truth is he’s just another K street politician.
Ted is slimier than an eel. But you’ll see that very soon.
Cruz could be in the same shape as Newton Gingrich in 2012, winning two states (SC and GA for Gingrich) and insisting that was enough to be the nominee.
The Supreme Court cases, including you still having the right to bare arms, are not solid results?
No, they’re not.
Was not tattle taling just letting Jim know how I felt about FR. That is all and that is how he took it
Great pics ... Thanks for posting those
