My personal favorite saying is “ if you think you own your property don’t pay property taxes and you will soon meet the REAL OWNER. “

property taxes are very moral.

Anybody who owns property has skin in the game.

Those who do not have no skin in it.

Exactly.

(Only it’s a bit more like the mafia extorting money from a business. It would be a real shame if something happened to you or your house because you didn’t pay the extortion/tax.)

I disagree totally. But if I were to agree, then I would say that only property owners should be allowed to vote. (And they would vote to eliminate property taxes!)

I just wrote my check. All I can think about is the truck I could have bought instead of the old one I have to drive with 250,000 miles on it.
I wish he had mentioned that people who home-school or have kids in private schools are really being hammered because they have to pay for that AND the local school that they don’t use.

Income tax is what’s immoral. It’s the equivalent of indentured servitude, an only slightly more benign form of slavery. It’s the government telling you they own (a significant portion of) the fruits of your labors. And it is especially egregious because there is no effective strategy for reducing its impact during lean times.

Consider the men who were the firebrands behind the American Revolution. Almost to a man, they were entrepreneurs. They fomented revolution, not for “religious freedom” (popular myth notwithstanding), but for economic liberty.

Wrong, sales and consumption taxes mean that everyone has “skin in the game” all property taxes do is encourage local (and some state) governments to spend irresponsibly.

Not only that but it drives up property values for those who WISH to buy a home, but do not already own one.
