Bernie Sanders Called for CIA Abolition During His Younger, More Radical Days

United States Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders reportedly called for the abolition of the CIA during his younger, more radical days. The CIA is "a dangerous institution that has got to go," Sanders told an audience in Vermont in October 1974, according to a Politico report. He described America's foreign intelligence service as a tool of American corporate interests that had repeatedly toppled democratically elected leaders. The agency, he added, was accountable to no one, "except right-wing lunatics who use it to prop up fascist dictatorships."

Sanders, who was aged 33 at the time, was running for the U.S. Senate on the Liberty Union Party ticket – an anti-war group that likened the draft to “a modern form of slavery.”

Bernie and zer0 are commies. Hillary is close. None should have ever gotten elected to anything

But as far as the CIA goes..... Can we really trust them? Perhaps spy agencies need to be rebooted completely once a decade or so.

Yep and I hope a Republican president would close down or highly curtail the EPA - it’s not what was intended at the start.

Dr. Drew, on the radio, (who is very Liberal) claims that Sanders is calling for the closing of the evil banks.

Dr. Drew was shocked at the idiocy.

The dumb SOB Bernie never had a paying job until he was 40. And then it was a public sector (mayor of Burlington) job.

He vacationed on a Kibbutz in Israel, run by a known anti-Israeli Stalinist.

He honeymooned in the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.

He was the first American politician to visit the communist Sandinistas in Nicaragua.

He’s a worthless POS, an extreme America-hater, and has been his whole life.

Young people don’t understand communism never works out well for the people. Our universities don’t teach the truth and our press doesn’t expose the lies Cuba, North Korea and China put out...

“...younger, more radical days”?

I can’t see how this ancient, mega radical kookster could be any more radical than he is today. Merely calling this major nut job a socialist is like calling reverend Wrght a main stream minister!!

That is so true. Where in the constitution does it establish the right to a degree in environmental studies or sociology at the expense of real tax payers. Conservatives will fight that to the death.

Excellent point. I am just ‘old school” I guess. For example, I worked for 7 years and and two college degrees. I never borrowed a dime much less wanted people with a gun to their head to pay for it. These Bernie Bots are going in for a real hard landing.

The CIA doesn’t always have either the Constitution or the best interests of the American people at heart.

Given the veracity of this statement, I, for one, am more than happy that the majority of said institution, are shall we say, less than competent. I actually agree somewhat with Sanders' call for the abolition of the CIA, but my rationale is quite different.

Mr. Sanders, like most of his ilk, actually believe the constant recurring memes in bad left wing propaganda films of an "evil genius" CIA. The historical track record shows something completely opposite this. There have been a rather lengthy number of times the CIA has been caught flat footed by events they should have been on top of, had they been reasonably competent.

The "evil genius" of numerous liberal agitprop films, novels, and the like isn't so much a genius, as a hapless bumbling "Barney Fife" who are incapable of finding their own posteriors, given the use of both hands, a map, a compass, a seeing eye dog, and a Global Positioning System. Truly right up there with Darth Vader and the Galactic Empire...

Your point is good too. I see the good in a CIA but with more constitutional restrictions. There is so much incompetence everywhere (sec of State running top secret comm through her bathroom?). Bernie fears a right wing military industrial complex and I fear a commie globalist cabal.

Sanders is right about abolishing the CIA but for the wrong reasons. The CIA, as it is currently established, is not working in America’s best interests. We need to disband the CIA and create a new intelligence agency from scratch and get rid of all of the careerists, the traders, and the incompetence.

I would rather take the entire Hells Angels biker gang and put them in charge of a new CIA because, even though their morality is suspect and they are somewhat criminal in orientation, I believe they would have the best interest of American heart compared to CIA careerists.

Like yourself, I favor the actual Constitutional restrictions on governmental entities, for a very simple reason. Without those restrictions in place and working government has the tendency to enlarge itself, which opens it up to whole new set of problems.

I am no great fan of "Big"-"anything", whether it be Big Government, Big Business, Big Labor, or what have you. Again, my rationale for this is simple. "Big"-"anything", is inherently (that is to say, by its very nature) *both* corrupt, and inefficient. My quarter century career in the US Postal Service demonstrates this, too perfectly to be in any manner deniable. When I first entered the USPS, in the early 1990s, management was boasting that they were the the second largest employer on the face of planet Earth, and knowing exactly *who* was the number one employer (the People's Liberation Army of China), I did not get a good vibe from these boasts.

My "spidey sense" did not fail me. It did not take overly long to note that operations were quite inefficient, and that, despite official regulations to the contrary, nepotism was the order of the day (a fact easily ascertained by simply noting that whenever an obituary notice was placed, the deceased could have as many as half a dozen close relatives listed on said notice, all working at a nearby, if not the same actual facility.)

While postal management no longer, and indeed, can no longer make the aforementioned boast, as the USPS has pared down a large number of personnel (largely through attrition in the past 5-10 years), the same culture of inefficiency, and corruption persists, and I've come to the altogether sad conclusion that it will outlast me...
