For Jeb Bush's campaign, August was a cruel month. Donald Trump's attacks on the former Florida governor as a "low-energy" politician were beginning to stick, and the two were bickering over immigration. The issue before the Bush team was what to do about it.
-snip-
Mike Murphy, the chief strategist for Bush's super PAC, Right to Rise, explained what had happened this way on Sunday. "Our theory was to dominate the establishment lane into the actual voting primaries," he said. "That was the strategy, and it did not work. I think it was the right strategy for Jeb. The problem was there was a huge anti-establishment wave. The establishment lane was smaller than we thought it would be. The marketplace was looking for something different, and we'll find out how that ends when we have a nominee."
The result is one of the most startling failures in the modern history of American politics: the fall of the House of Bush.

Bush bundler: Mike Murphy will make a "minimum of $14 million" from this year's campaign https://t.co/jnneZP2XkB— Allahpundit (@allahpundit) February 22, 2016
The Bush name wasn’t really what puts me off about Jeb. Jeb seems stupid. He also seems more interested in pleasing Hispanics rather than working in the best interests of the entire Nation.
You know they thought a usually docile GOP electorate would obediently fall in behind the next claimant.
They were at a loss when it didn’t happen.
It wasn’t the stupid that did it for me. It was low energyness.
“We don’t need no stinkin’ Base.....”
Exactly.
Shortly after I questioned @murphymike about his earnings last year, he became hostile. Now he blocked me. Huh https://t.co/HF0OYAkAHI— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) February 22, 2016
No, his last name wasn’t as much a predictor of his fate as his support for common core, immigration “love” statement, support of the Iranian deal, agreement on climate change, tepid defense of his brother’s war record early on, customs duty-cheating invisible Mexican wife, and drugged out never-to-be-seen daughter.
Terry Schiavo and Jeb’s support for illegals had far more to do with the demise of Jeb’s campaign than Trump did. I say that because before Trump began his campaign large numbers of conservatives did not support Jeb and it was usually for one of the two reasons above.
Mike Murphy denied two stories of mine that were true. Now he denies this CNN story. The guy has an honesty problem https://t.co/h616QUW3jz— Marc Caputo (@MarcACaputo) February 22, 2016
Good grief. And these people want to run the entire country.
Bingo!!!
Bush laid out policy positions that could be controversial among the conservative base:
He is a supporter of the Common Core education standards, which have caused strong backlash from conservatives who view them as impeding local control of education.
He said he opposed President Obama’s executive actions on immigration, but said Republicans should act on the issue ârather than have their heads explode.â
Economic needs should be the priority when allowing in new immigrants, Bush said, as opposed to uniting families.
He also called for an end to votes to repeal ObamaCare, in favor of putting forward Republican alternatives.
âWe donât have to make a point any more as Republicans,â he said. âWe have to actually show that we can, in an adult-like way, we can govern, lead.â
The good news is Bush his paunch. So he still has that going for him

Jeb bundler says Mike Murphy made $14 million as captain of the R2R Hindenburg https://t.co/v2Sl7paUfl— Simon Maloy (@SimonMaloy) February 22, 2016
Yeah, he is like a wet dishrag used for rocket propellant.
I could live with stupidity or low energy in a president—but not Jeb!’s pro-amnesty perfidy.
Had it ever, just once, occurred to them that there is legitimacy to our views?
