Donald Trump on Friday urged a roomful of voters to boycott the tech giant Apple so long as its chief executive, Tim Cook, refuses to comply with a court order to assist the FBI with hacking into the cell phone of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook.
"First of all Apple better give the security for that phone," the Republican presidential hopeful said during a campaign rally in Pawleys Island, S.C. "What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time they give that security number. How do you like that?"
"I just thought of it," Trump noted, drawing applause.
"Boycott Apple," he repeated.
"Here's the thing, the phone's not even owned by this young thug that killed people," Trump said, claiming that the cell phone used by Farook is instead "owned by the federal government."
The billionaire suggested that Cook "is looking to do a big number... to show how liberal he is."
"We gotta get to the bottom of it, but we're not going to get to the bottom of it unless we use common sense," Trump said. "So I like the idea of boycotting Apple until such time as they give that information â I think that's a great idea."
But neither is Cruz.
I think this is a valid war matter. The problem is to ME, that it is being handled as if it were a crime, not a war.
Treat war as war.
IF this becomes a court issue and Apple loses then what? I think Apple expects and wants to lose.
Any one expecting such security and privacy within the warranty of those phones could possibley file suit agains Apple if their private data was acquired by (whoever), even a government agency.
If that happens, I THINK the defense of a “COURT RULING” could protect Apple.
In the same way, if you have a new battery installed, you can’t sue the garage if the starter motor dies three weeks later. If a court ruled you could, you either could not get a battery and/or the price would triple or more, merely in an action of self-protection.
No, but neither was Mitt Romney. And trump is left of Mittens.
A coworker of mine recently compared Trump's campaign to The Producers - the suggestion was that Trump is trying very hard to run an ultimately losing campaign, while creating brand loyalty among a hard-core base of supporters who will buy anything he sells them when he goes back to his business life.
I shrugged it off at the time, but maybe it's not so far-fetched?
True... if there is still more acting in this Kabuki theater to go, Trump has gone off half cocked.
Wonder if my source article has been “discredited” yet....
“Donâs starting to lose me.”
Yeah, I have 4 Iphones in the house. This issue only solidifies my decision to upgrade to newer Iphones when the time comes. Not sure what Trump’s thinking on this one...
This is the same government that has high up bureaucrats who believe conservative groups in the US are a bigger threat than Islamic Terorrists.
Looking at more comments about what is going on, this could just be Kabuki theater waiting to finish playing out. Eventually the government gets serious enough to treat it as war, and the non-defyable order comes. And if so, and if Trump knows it, he should hold his horses.
What a total loser Trump is.
I was just reading on Yahoo about the now defunct Trump University ... which promised a lot and delivered little causing the people who paid big money for the courses to file a class action lawsuit.
It seems that the woman who spearheaded the lawsuit was threatened by the Trump, who denies it, of course, but it is totally in line with the other things he has done.
This is a quote from the article:
Donald Trump, embroiled in a long-running legal battle with former students of his defunct Trump University, has been accused in recently filed court papers of threatening to financially ruin the woman who is a lead plaintiff in the suit. Trumpâs comments, according to the filings, came in a secret deposition he gave just two months ago, on Dec. 10 â the same day he was making international headlines over his pledge to ban Muslim immigrants from the country.
Then he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. Apple can't open the phone. It's that simple.
Simple answer. Vote Cruz.
If we are paranoid enough, we would do our level best to prevent the government from being able to wage war.
We don’t find an answer in paranoia. We find it in the rights and blessings bestowed literally (not figuratively) by God.
Who asked for the same thing sans the boycott
Apple will probably have a new device available with advanced security waaaaaay beyond this devices capability. It’s looking more and more like a marketing event from my window.
You can focus on any little nit and find any candidate “unworthy.” That game goes nowhere.
Doubt it.
He doesn’t get it. He simply doesn’t get it.
How do we know?? Well it would probably make the news....that’s how.
