Donald Trump has often promised to repeal the “disaster” that is Obamacare and he’s right, it is a disaster.
But at Thursday night’s CNN Republican Presidential Town Hall in South Carolina, Donald Trump embraced what is easily the worst part of Obamacare, the anti-free market “individual mandate” which forces Americans to buy only government-approved health care insurance, whether they want to or not.
To justify his support for the Obamacare mandate, Donald Trump uses leftist talking points of not wanting people to “die in the streets,” as if they has ever happened in America — before or after Obamacare.
Here’s how Donald Trump answered CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night (emphasis added):
DONALD TRUMP:“Well, I like the mandate. OK. So here’s where I’m a little bit different. I don’t want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this – look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. I mean, we get big crowds.“
Allow me to break down the “logic” of this:
WATCH BELOW:
“If you broke your arm for instance, your insurance pays. not the government plan. If you got the flu, also not covered by the government. If you don’t have insurance you loose your asssets.”
There are plans being sold with deductibles over $6,500/year.
Their buyers pay for their flu and their broken arm - 100%.
Add in $4,000/year in premiums and one gets $10,500 - about what a Western European system pays for an operation.
We need to reform the health care coverage system.
Obama tried, made some improvements for some, but has failed me 100%.
I just don’t care about that level of detail. If Trump enforces the borders, some decisions will have to be made regarding the mass of problems. If Trump is fixing the big problem when no one else well, then Trump gets to make those decisions, too.
*****HUGE APPLAUSE*******
Well said!
Every time I read a Trump quote I have to do a double take, and think that it has to be someone making fun of Trump.
Then I look at the video and the quote is actually what Trump said. He has a real hard time keeping a train of thought together within 2 sentences.
Precisely. I am NO Rubio fan but I would vote for him before TRUMP any day. I'm not sure if Trump gets the nomination if I can vote for him since he and Hillary/Bernie come from the same pot. I think I will do a write in.
Cruz stood against the GOP-e ALONE AND FOUGHT TO STOP OBAMACARE.. ALONE.. That’s MY KIND OF PRESIDENT.
And failed.
It’s time for Trump.
He said earlier in the campaign he would repeal it. It just shows what an unapologetic top flopped this guy is. I don’t think you can count on him doing anything that he says he’ll do.
Thatâs not what he meant by âmandateâ. He went on to explain that he is in favor of providers being mandated to provide care regardless of ability to pay.
That’s NOT what I heard.
I don’t think so. But it sure beats doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result.
“I hate this word parsing and attempting to jump on every phrase. His positions are clear.”
Using the word “mandate” is a red flag. You can call it parsing all you want, but words do mean something. The fact that he uses the word mandate is significant.
Even more significant is he is talking about providing insurance for EVERYBODY.
Ignore his words at your own (and everybody else’s) peril.
He did NOT FAIL..he could not vote on it alone.
HE DID what he could under those circumstances.
TRUMP will not only FAIL as Obama has failed, he will veto and control conservative bills...
Well Brian, I’m covered by two single payer insurances plus my retirement insurance by my former employer.
Since I’m a disabled Vet, the VA pays for everything except an $8 copay for a prescription. After that, I have medicare that pays at 70% I think it is, and my private insurance pays 90% of what medicare doesn’t pay.
I like the single payer VA the best.
” I will repeal the mandate... I LIKE THE MANDATE..”
Only a idiot talks out of both sides of his mouth...
“Principled Conservatismâ Cruzies voting for more invasion. How patriotic. And Trump supporters are the cult? LOL!”
Just out of curiosity, were you one of those freepers who refused to vote for Romney against Obama?
You’re right. There has to be something in place to help those that have preexisting health problems, but not sure what that might be.
Big IF here: If we could put a stop to the fraud and abuse of money that’s already collected and going into the system (for SS Disability, Medicaid for examples), it would be easy enough to do something in coordination with insurance companies, or a select number of companies.
Have to make sure we leave death panel type stuff out of it!
Who is "we" and how will it be done? We have 47 million on food stamps, 54 million on SS, 47 million on Medicare, 70 million on Medicaid, a $19 trillion debt, over $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities in the form of the entitlement programs, etc. Do you think that we are going to get rid of SS, Medicare, or Medicaid?
What is "conservatism" going to do about this situation? What kind of political support will "conservatism" get for the changes. Be specific on what you think will be accomplished?
Phyllis SchLafly put out a paper a few years ago, How Mass (Legal) Immigration Dooms a Conservative Republican Party You should read it.
Who is the only candidate advocating a reduction of LEGAL PERMANENT IMMIGRATION?
I don't want a list of your excuses for giving up.
I am not giving up. I am working for the election of Trump, the candidate who will make America great again.
“Tricky Tedâs last minute before the vote sleaze express. Just like the Iowa smears on Carson & Trump from Senator Principled Conservative. We have seen this beltway mud slinging movie before.”
Are you by any chance Donnie’s lawyer on the defamation lawsuit he’s threatening?
In case you didn’t notice, good ol’ Donnie’s words speak for themself. Just like the words he said in that 1999 interview.
You can hate what he was quoted he was saying, but they are the truth.
What conservative bills?
