Donald Trump has often promised to repeal the “disaster” that is Obamacare and he’s right, it is a disaster.
But at Thursday night’s CNN Republican Presidential Town Hall in South Carolina, Donald Trump embraced what is easily the worst part of Obamacare, the anti-free market “individual mandate” which forces Americans to buy only government-approved health care insurance, whether they want to or not.
To justify his support for the Obamacare mandate, Donald Trump uses leftist talking points of not wanting people to “die in the streets,” as if they has ever happened in America — before or after Obamacare.
Here’s how Donald Trump answered CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night (emphasis added):
DONALD TRUMP:“Well, I like the mandate. OK. So here’s where I’m a little bit different. I don’t want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this – look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. I mean, we get big crowds.“
Allow me to break down the “logic” of this:
WATCH BELOW:
When you point out some scripture or statement to a religious cultist that contradicts their religious beliefs, they invariably accuse you of taking the statement out of context.
Then they give some lame explanation of how “in the proper context” their religious position is not contradicted.
There is no reasonable doubt regarding the context in which Trump said he likes The Mandate. But religious cultists are not subject to reason. They have made up their minds, don’t confuse them with the facts.
Who says Trump will fix anything? He is a NE liberal that couldn’t fix a flat tire. He doesn’t fix things. He makes deals. That’s what he tells us. I shudder to think of the immigration deal he will cut because he is limited in what he can do on his own. He has already said he will grant amnesty to the “good ones”.
I think Trump people who have all this hope in someone who changes his mind like I change my socks will be sorely disappointed. There is a solid conservative alternative — Ted Cruz.
Urgent Care Clinics and ERs are required by law to treat anyone that walks in the door regardless of insurance. This was required before Obamacare. Is that the ‘mandate’ Trump is referring to? It seems to be because if it were not so, then indeed people would be left sick and dying in the streets.
I am sure Trump does not support the Obamacare individual mandate, and in fact, he has criticized Roberts for upholding Obamacare not just once, but twice. That criticism contradicts any twist in a narrative that he wants an individual mandate to purchase health insurance.
I have viewed old videos of Trump speaking before committees in Congress. There is not a shred of doubt that he has deep-deep knowledge of the workings and interplay of business, taxes, insurance and the effects of government policy. He was basically holding a seminar for the Senators present who showed openly their respect for his knowledge.
I have no doubt that Trump will solve many problems in the health insurance field without resorting to socialism or forced taxation to provide universal coverage.
The implication of this thread appears to be a hit piece because none of the claims add up to the conclusion that is reached.
“CRUZ or LOSE!”
Looks like you’ll get your wish tomorrow!
You will be one of the person’s that eventually say “ What in the world was I thinking?”!!!!
“That wouldn’t fix the free rider problem, it would just put the taxpayers on the hook for the pre-existing condition. Those pre-existing conditions would be extremely costly (think cancer).”
I think it would. Insurance companies don’t consider most illnesses preexisting conditions. And for most of the really bad stuff, the qualify for medicare or medicaid anyway.
If you broke your arm for instance, your insurance pays. not the government plan. If you got the flu, also not covered by the government. If you don’t have insurance you loose your asssets.
I take it that's a rhetorical question.
I like Cruz in the primary, but if he doesn't make it and Trump does, I will be all in for Trump in the general.
I would vote for even Rubio before Trump. Look at what Arnold did to the Republican Party in California. I think Trump is at least that bad, possibly even worse.
No it didn't. You just gave up, just at the moment we finally had a chance to really accomplish something.
Consider this...
I don't want a list of your excuses for giving up.
Hillary Clinton is securely on the road to coronation as the Democrat nominee has overwhelming support from the Democrat political class.
My dog could beat Hillary Clinton. So can a conservative.
If it’s Trump vs Hillary (or Sanders) then obviously Rubio didn’t make it.
So, you believe Trump is lying about illegal immigration?
Huh?
Oh, I’m not.
*These* are the people leftists are talking about who ‘only care about a person when they’re in the womb’.
I’ve lost respect for Cruz and his methods.
“I can say that if Cruz does not win, I will vote for Trump.
I would just like Trump to BE THE CONSERVATIVE he from time to time acts like...too many times heâs changes, says heâll become what he needs to be, etc. Just defend the Constitution and the Republic.”
Agree. I didn’t like what he said about being a little bit establishment - then he said “okay?” No, that’s not okay.
And there are other things that bother me about him to the point I teeter on the edge on whether I can vote for him. However, as it stands, I will vote for him if he’s the nominee.
Does he have to be lying? He’s been saying since last summer that he will let the “good” illegals back in in an expedited process after deportation as soon as media interviewers asked him what would happen to the companies who lose those illegal workers.
Trump’s “policies” are bluster, boasting and hype. They aren’t realistic or sincere. He is totally malleable on them. And when he caves in he’ll get up there and brag that he’s made a great deal and got A, B and C in exchange for giving up the stuff his supporters are hoping he’ll do.
So, what has Cruz promised that is different?
Donna — not sure I would saying he is lying. Not even sure he has thought it through. He has said he would send them back and let the good ones back in. That is revolving door amnesty. He always says he does deals. A president is not a dictator so he will have to cut a deal on immigration reform. Given the rest of the government doesnt share his views — then Trump would have to compromise to make a deal. But again even if he got all he wanted (not even possible) he has said he would grant amnesty to the “good ones” as long as they leave and come back. That’s amnesty.
“Huh?”
LOL
as soon as media interviewers asked him what would happen to the companies who lose those illegal workers.
I don't think this part happened.
Unless the US Senate is stacked with 60 elderly tycoons from NY with orange comb-overs Trump will be hard pressed to get anything passed
