Donald Trump has often promised to repeal the “disaster” that is Obamacare and he’s right, it is a disaster.
But at Thursday night’s CNN Republican Presidential Town Hall in South Carolina, Donald Trump embraced what is easily the worst part of Obamacare, the anti-free market “individual mandate” which forces Americans to buy only government-approved health care insurance, whether they want to or not.
To justify his support for the Obamacare mandate, Donald Trump uses leftist talking points of not wanting people to “die in the streets,” as if they has ever happened in America — before or after Obamacare.
Here’s how Donald Trump answered CNN’s Anderson Cooper last night (emphasis added):
DONALD TRUMP:“Well, I like the mandate. OK. So here’s where I’m a little bit different. I don’t want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this – look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. I mean, we get big crowds.“
Allow me to break down the “logic” of this:
WATCH BELOW:
That’s just propaganda. Besides its old. Not the case any longer
What I said was, Hillarys flying monkeys will trample Cruz.
A moderate candidate will not win. Besides, Cruz is a moderate. He talks big on the constitution but will crumble at the behest of his donors
The race now is not moderate v conservative. It is us v the uniparty
“Does he just not know what the mandate is? Honestly, that wouldn’t surprise me. He offers a lot of vague answers to hide the fact that he doesn’t have much depth of knowledge about a lot of subjects. “
Its gonna be yuge. Its gonna per fabulous. I am self funded. you know I don’t take any money the other candidiates are getting money from everyone else. Its pathetic what Jeb Bush has done with that money pathetic. What a waste. I will put in place a system that is fabulous. It will be unbelievable.
Geez this guy just goes round and round. A hurricane full of sound and fury signifying nothing!
Right here from the very CNN transcript. Cooper is talking about the individual mandate. Get it people two words... together! Individual Mandate. Next sentence out of Trumps mouth I like the mandate.
So he either likes the individual Mandate or was not listening to Cooper and was off in his own lala land.
Sheesh
COOPER: Repealed and there’s no mandate for everybody to have insurance, what’s to - why would insurance company (sic) not have a pre-existing - insure somebody who has a pre-existing condition ...
TRUMP: Well I like the mandate. OK. So here’s where I’m a little bit different. I don’t want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this - look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. We get big crowds.
Trumpers, can you say that if Trump does not win the nomination you will vote for Cruz?

Yes, if Trump doesnât win, Iâll vote for Cruz.
Sorry, but a large number of FR Cruz supporters have been emphatic that they will only vote for Cruz...period. Your little challenge would be more aptly directed at your fellow Mr. Haney supporters
“Yes, and that mandate is inextricably linked to the requirement that insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions. If you mandate that insurers cover people with pre-existing conditions, but do not require that people purchase insurance, it creates a YUGE free rider problem: people will just wait until they get sick before buying insurance. It would destroy the insurance market.
You can’t have one without the other, which is why BOTH requirements must go (along with the rest of Obamacare).”
You could just cap payouts to the premiums the buyer paid for say the first 18 (or 24) months of coverage.
Alternately, we could also allow insurance companies to sell policies costing as much on average as the buyers subsidy amounts (with the federal government paying the premiums). These might cover:
1. 80% of your EMTALA care, and
2. X*.8(vital drugs like insulins for Type 1s)
3. X*.8(of care that got you to get back to work)
4. X*.5(drugs selected by the insurer)
5. 80% of the first doctor visit of year, 70% of the second doctor visit, 60% of the third doctor visit, etc.
where X varies by your subsidy amount.
Such coverage would work well for millions, certainly better than $6,800/year deductible coverage.
Agreed. It is like a feeding frenzy, but it matters little. No one is changing their mind. The voting in SC start tomorrow and then we will a result to discuss. That should be interesting.
DONALD TRUMP: "Well, I like the mandate. OK. So here's where I'm a little bit different. I don't want people dying on the streets and I say this all the time. And I say this â look, I did five speeches, maybe six speeches today. We had a lot of rallies. We had of thousands and thousands of people. I mean, we get big crowds."Logic? Trump?Allow me to break down the "logic" of this:
Theyâre going willingly. Despite all the flashing red warning lights and alarm bells, off they go! It truly is a sight to behold.
Ted Cruz casting U. S. Senate votes enabling Obamatrade isn’t a “flashing red warning lights and alarm bells”?
Ted Cruz receiving millions in anonymous, money laundered donations isn’t a “flashing red warning lights and alarm bells?”
I find Trump supporters here far more pragmatic. We want the wall built and unfair trade restrained. We don’t see him as the immaculate conservative. OTOH, Sentaor Principled Conservative supporters...
One thing about Trump is that when his mouth opens then I believe that the link with his brain is severed, and what comes out is whatever group of disjointed words and phrases that had been rattling around in the pipeline before the link was disconnected. I think that’s why he can never stay on topic for more than three seconds at a crack and why his proposals never have any substance to them.
And a Cruz, who worked for George W. Bush.
Look, Cruzers have taken Trump's comment about not 'allowing people to die in the street' as to mean he is for single payer. That is a lie. Here, I am sure Trump isn't intending a free rider policy. If Trump used the word 'mandate' poorly - ugh, big deal. Once again, I am sick and frickin' tired of the phrase pouncing when I have heard all of Trump's speeches and read his policy statement. After day full of rallies and then this town hall, I am not going to jump on some phrasing.
Cruzers may do that to try and save his sinking butt. But it will not work.
Trump has clarified his position on this. Any further smearing by Cruz & his minions on this issue is pure unadulterated win at all costs sleaze. Principled Conservatism? Ha!
Two of the polls released in the last few days have Trump under 30% support and if you look at the real clear politics graph his support has been cratering over the past week. He still has a significant lead but he is trending down fast.

Sounds like Cruz has SC all wrapped up...with Trump “cratering” in the polls as you indicated.
I guess I’m wondering why the Cruz supporters are not excited about his sure win in SC. According to many Cruz supporters here on FR, Cruz is a shoo in in SC.
The third shooter has always bothered me, too.
Adjust your tinfoil hat and tell me about your other conspiracy theories!
It sounds like he didn't know what "the mandate" was at the time Cooper asked him the question.
It's a good thing he has advisers on his team that can tell him what is conservative and what isn't so that he can issue "clarifications" after the fact.
He has already said improved medicare. You have a problem with the very sick not being able to get medical care. Or is this just and election year issue for you.
And they are going to get it, from someone else if Apple caves.
As I said upthread in another context, the FBI being unable to get that data should be considered the price of freedom.
Cruz.
God bless you. Don’t expect the ‘armor of God’ folks to be for you in an election year.
i agrre 100 percent with that statement. guy is a chameleon. has taken the party hostage imo. has all the power. the independent option gives him the leverage to do what ever he wants really. 92 is still fresh open sore
