Vatican: Pope Was Not Singling out Trump With His Remarks

A spokesman for Pope Francis insisted Friday the pontiff was "in no way" launching an attack on Donald Trump, a U.S. presidential candidate, nor was he trying to sway voters by declaring someone who advocates building walls isn't Christian.
The Rev. Federico Lombardi, in an interview on Vatican Radio, stressed that Francis often speaks about building bridges, not walls, and that his remark on Thursday wasn't "a personal attack" on the business mogul.

On Friday, Lombardi sought to put the pope's comments in context, saying they were "in no way a personal attack or an indication on how to vote." The radio interviewer told Lombardi that many have seen the comment as a kind of "excommunication, if we can call it that," of Trump.

The Vatican is lying. The Pope WAS was singling out Trump because this pope is a progressive shill for the Obama administration.
If the pope can enter US politics, should the US be able to enter Vatican politics concerning papal elections? Or decry homosexuality and child abuse in the Church? Or the Church's descent into godless communism? Or be allowed to arrest the Vatican's criminal bankers in the US?
Please advise, Mr. Pope. Tell us your truth on these questions.

The Pope DID try to influence U.S. politics - why can’t he be honest and just admit it (the Pope IS supposed to refrain from lying, isn’t he?). Any attempt to paint his statement otherwise is just putting lipstick on a pig.
The Pope was definitely talking about Trump.
Furthermore, a mere spokesman cannot retract what the Pope said. Only the person who made the statement can do that.
A spokesman can sometimes “clarify” what was said, but not in this case. It was crystal clear.
The Pope’s spokesman is simply engaged in damage control. Again.
Not really. While I don’t support the Pope in any way on his stupid “immigrant” publicity stunts, Trump actually started this a few days ago with some tweets about the Pope. Having an ego that is at least as big as Trump’s, the Pope clearly wanted to get back. As usual, he said it in a confused and incoherent manner; he and Trump are pretty well matched in the incoherency department.
The thing that I thought was funny, however, is that the Pope then blandly says, with reference to his failure to support the movement to prevent a gay marriage law in Italy, that he “never gets involved in the politics of a country.” What a laugh! If he sees a chance to stick his nose in to support some leftwing position, wild horses couldn’t keep him away.
Apparently neither is stealing (ie, stealing the rosary or whatever it was off the corpse of a dead man. Francis had no qualms in admitting it. I suppose it was just some of that redistribution he’d like to see from everyone with a little property-except the Vatican).
