Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, appearing on the June 10, 2007, edition of "Meet The Press," reiterated and expanded on his claim that he was misled by unknown forces in the intelligence community who failed to reveal vital information to him before his infamous February 5, 2003, speech before the
There is a fine point that keeps getting lost in this “discussion”.
Yes the whole world knew Iraq has/had WMD’s, we sold/gave them to Saddam in the 80’s.
What was being said at the time of the second invasion were words like ‘reinvigorated”, “restarted”, “renewed”.
If you take the time to go through all the actual reports of WMD’s found in Iraq then you can see that they were old stock-not new stuff.
Oh and the uranium was old stuff from the 80’s, nothing was found from the Wilson/Plame situation.
Even back in original Desert Storm . . . I always thought Colin Powell was an affirmative action General.
And I like him even less now after endorsing Obama.
He was Reagan’s national security advisor. Reagan was no dummy.
That was a quote from the article.
Please - no one ever said Saddam did not ever have chemical weapons - at the time of the invasion we were told (whether to call it a lie or not is up to the individual's POV) that Iraq restarted their WMD program anew - emphasis on "anew".
Anew? The weapons are there. And ISIS is using them. Need more links?
“The raw data showed Russian Army dismantling an Iraq WMD facility and moving material to Syria.”
Ok with that evidence. I wonder whether the planners took into sufficient consideration that rendering Iraq powerless would allow Iran to increase its grip on the Mideast.
You would argue with George W. Bush?
when it supports moderate democrat donald trump silly.. didnt you know that ?
Well surprise!!!! That is the same place we here the shi!. Can't blame Trump, he was not the elected privileged bunch of lying crap. Think Americans are in the loop?
Trump for President.
I viewed the entire clip, and he said he was misled by the intelligence community. (By the way, the Secretary of State has intelligence assets of his own. So, his own people misled him.)
But, maybe I missed something. Would you identify the mark on the video where Powell said he was lied to by Bush?
ANALYSIS Which just goes to show the US still hasn/t figured out the fervid Mideast mindset to this day. Its thousand-year-old sectarian internecine warfare was kept in check by strongmen like Saddam and Khadafi. Now these savages are marauding all over Europe.....and are coming here to kill us for what we did in Iraq.
POINTS TO PONDER
<><> Powell never mentions that the conniving Mideast types calculated the advantage of having a superpower in their midst....and they cashed in bigtime.
<><> The US gamely decided to train the indigenous population....it cost us billions and we managed to train 4-5 or so over five years.
<><> In the US we take them off the farm, send them to boot camp, and in 3 weeks we got soldiers.
<><> The Bank of Kabul where the CIA and DOD deposited billions to finance the war was a withdrawal-only goldmine for insiders.
<><> For public consumption, the US said we went into Iraq to show them the advantages of democracy and to get all warm and cuddly as they embraced it.
(waiting for hysterical laughter to die down)
Remember this Colin? The war profiteering was outrageous. Neocon godfather Richard Perle relaxing in Paris (above the fray---nowhere near his cohorts plotting in the WH Office of Special Ops) got so rich w/ insider info, he was reported to be starting his own oil company.
<><> One last thing, Colin.....GWB estimated the Iraq strike would cost $50-60 billion.......then an angry Bush fired advisor Larry Lindsey because Lindsay dared to say the war might cost more like $100 billion.
That was in 2007 dollars.
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY Iraq and Afghanistan today have cost the US some $3 TRILLION....and rivers of young blood. We/re still pouring US tax dollars into those decrepit Mideast countries, and..... as Donald says....we got NOTHING in return.
BTW, look who controls most of the Iraqui oil fields today.
I never said Trump made it up. I said he’s using Code Pink talking points and that some, on an activist site that stood at Walter Reed to counter them, are echoing them. It is a betrayal of the worst kind and done simply to excuse someone else’s ignorance.
the process is known as revisionist history
The process is to destroy a great President who conquered Baghdad
The process is to justify the pacifist cowardice of Barack Obama and his reluctance to utter the phrase War on Terrorism
The process is to elect a Democrat flower child
Let the facts speak for themselves.
Oh yeah, nobody wants to listen to those.

2014 and 2015.
But they didn’t exist...
And not a very impressive one.
Like I said, equal opportunity hire. We are experiencing the same thing in our military now with women, queers and trannies.
The word “Bush” is taken to be the “Bush Administration” almost pro-forma anymore.
ISIS is making NEW chemical weapons. Mustard gas is made by mixing bleach and ammonia. Don’t do it at home by accident.
So you don’t think Bush told the truth?
What is true, beyond the shadow of a doubt, is that influential people, and perhaps Bush himself, WANTED to do Iraq as opposed to the legitimate alternatives: A punitive expedition in Afghanistan, or the conquest of our real enemies and reconstruction of their societies.
Feith, Wolfowitz, and the others wanted to get Saddam, and that's all they wanted. All the rationalizations were either not in our national interest (the UN, rape rooms, the poor Kurds, etc, etc) or post-hoc (Make Iraq Great Again).
---
When the Mongols conquered Baghdad they got a pile of jewels, gold, silver, slaves and other valuables. What good did the American tax payer get for conquering Baghdad that made Bush look great?
Yup! It was “old stuff”. That’s why Russians trucked it out and ISIS is using what’s left....because it’s “old”.
