Cruz Says He Hasn't Attacked His Colleagues, Despite Attacking His Colleagues
Weekly Standard ^ | 2/18/2016 | SHOSHANA WEISSMANN

Posted on 02/18/2016 2:34:55 PM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

During Wednesday night's CNN Republican Town Hall, Cruz was asked about his relationship with his colleagues. "From time to time, we see articles written in the paper or on television that you don't get along with some of the Republican senators--your colleagues in Washington. If you are going to have a problem with them, what are you going to say to them as president to get them on board so that we can get legislation passed?"

In his answer, Cruz explained, "it's not that I speak with a lack of civility or respect, I mean you have seen in the presidential campaign as other people insult me, impune my integrity, I don't respond in kind. The Bible talks about if someone treats you unkindly, repay them with kindness. It's like heaping coals on the top of their head. That has been the standard I have tried to follow, that's how I have approached it in the Senate. So, I have not attacked or insulted my colleagues in the senate, Democrat or Republican. even if I disagree with them on the issues."

Cruz went on to say that people say he's unlikeable because he honors "the commitments that I made to the women and men who elected me."

However, Cruz has not only attacked his colleagues, but his attacks have helped him gain support of those disenchanted with the Republican establishment.

Last July, Cruz called Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a liar. "What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie." In October, he also called McConnell, "the most effective Democratic leader in modern times."

Cruz has turned into the most unethical person in the history of the United States.

Congratulations! This might actually be the stupidest statement in the history of Free Republic (and the competition is stiff...). At the point that your statements become that hyperbolic, no one could possibly take anything you say seriously. Well, not that many people did in the first place...

Trump lies because the truth won’t suffice. Which would be every time he opens his mouth.

I have more respect for someone who earns their living, not from taxes, but from their own talent, hard work and ingenuity.

My son works for the Government and has saved the tax payers ‘millions’ and honored for doing so.... He too fought the good fight....there are good people in the political arena and we should thank God they are there.

I believe God grooms those he chooses to serve as leaders....but they all must make the choices how they are going to serve this nation......

And by the way....there’s a whole lot of corruption, probably more in the Corporate Business world.

The "attack" on Mitch McConnell from October that is mentioned in this article is truly one of the most devastating speeches I have ever seen. If Cruz ends up winning, I think it will go down as one of the most important speeches in American history.

If you haven't seen it, I suggest you do - regardless of who you support.

Here is the whole 1.5 hour speech. The part that is really damning for McConnell starts at about 55:00. Cruz lays out an unassailable case against McConnell and the GOPe that really should be heard by everyone.

It is not an "attack" on McConnell. It is simply fact.

Pretty amazing what comes out of the minds and keyboard of some of the Trumpsters.....makes you wonder what’s going on in their heads. Whatever it is somethings not snapping in the right areas.

None of those things contradict the theology of the 2 kingdoms - right-hand (Heavenly kingdom) and left-hand (civil governance). Ted Cruz has argued for the exclusion of Muslim refugees, for instance, on the basis of a SECURITY argument, which understands the legitimate reasons that government can hold a particular religion’s adherents in dis-favor.

Trump has had affairs while married and has boasted of his sexual exploits but says he has never asked God to forgive anything. Yet it is Cruz whose Christian beliefs are getting a rectal exam.

I hate politics. Politics is where normal, reasonable people become liars and libelers. Everybody.

Given Trump’s history it is good that he is being open about his infidelities now, because it would help him not be vulnerable to blackmail. So far he has been able to fend off attacks of “sexism” by pointing out Bill Clinton’s affairs. But if Bernie gets the nomination Trump’s infidelities will get full play in the media. And democrats have a double-standard.

Has breitbart had its “expose” on Cruz?

No doubt that Trump’s road to the nomination appears cleaner. This does not become a real race until the field thins to two or at the most three. Three candidates is unstable. It all depends on thinning the field and how fast it is accomplished.

Everything will be in much better focus by mid-March.
