RE: If something is a sin, itâs a sin in everywhere.
I believe the Catholic church does understand mitigating factors.
For instance, lying is a sin.
But you are not held accountable if you lie to a Nazi to protect a Jew.
The intent and situation are always considered.
Whatever. I’m not Catholic. Guess that’s between the sinner and to whomever they think they are accountable.
“But you are not held accountable if you lie to a Nazi to protect a Jew.

No, lying to a Nazi Officer to protect Jews is STILL a sin. You can refuse to answer, or you can say something irrelevant, but you cannot LIE. For example, if you were captured by Space Aliens who were going to destroy the entire world if you admitted your favorite ice cream was chocolate, you could NOT lie and say it was vanila instead. But you could ignore them, or you could say “What makes you think chocolate is so great?”
I appreciate ‘intent’ and ‘situation’ - they inform my own views on a lot of issues (including birth control and abortion).
But I’m not a Catholic, and until now have refrained from commenting on what seems to me to be a lot of incoherence coming from this Pope.
What about his comments as to how building a wall, to protect a nation, is somehow ‘unChristian’ - from a Pope who lives inside of a walled city himself, with very able armed guards watching over him at all times?
I’ve personally often wondered what this Pope’s philosophical/religious *center* really is. He just seems to be all over the place, without any real organization of mind/thought.
(I don’t mean any offense to my Catholic FRiends; it’s just that this is a Pope like none we’ve seen in my lifetime, and who seems to be causing a lot of confusion, even among his own fold.)
