Fox News Poll: Trump leads in South Carolina (Trump 32, Cruz 19)

Donald Trump still leads in the race for the Republican nomination in South Carolina, according to a new Fox News poll.

Trump captures 32 percent among South Carolina likely Republican primary voters. Ted Cruz gets 19 percent to Marco Rubio's 15 percent. These are the only three candidates earning double-digit support.

Jeb Bush and Ben Carson tie at nine percent each, and John Kasich gets six percent.

There's little difference among only those who say they will "definitely" vote in the GOP primary: Trump garners 34 percent, Cruz 20 percent, Rubio 15 percent, Bush 8 percent, Carson 7 percent, and Kasich 6 percent.

Some support could still shift, as 25 percent of these GOP likely voters say they could change their mind.

And here’s the reason for the “surprising” WSJ poll.

“Cruz is the top pick among ‘very’ conservatives — but just barely. He receives 31 percent, Trump 29 percent, and Rubio 14 percent.”

I am disappointed in Cruz. I thought he was better than that.

Roger Ailes is a supporter of Donald Trump. Fox News said Marco Rubio won the Iowa caucus because he came in third (as always predicted).

I don’t want the Cruzers to go silent should Trump prevail. I want them to join the team, as I would certainly do if it is the other way around (that Cruz wins the nomination).

Agreed. I think that most of them will; just the loudest ones won’t.

Then again, the loudest ones’ latest meme is that they’ll vote Hillary over Trump, so I’m sure that you can guess their REAL motivations...

If Cruz is polling 28 percent nationally according to Murdoch, why can’t Cruz get more than 17-20 in a conservative Republican Southern state like SC??

Any Cruz folks wanna enlighten me?

Don’t, they will start posting same article again and again. Yesterday they did at least 42 times.

Poll after poll shows Trump beating the establishment combined nationally, in SC and in NV.

Where’s your god now?

I’m a Cruz supporter - so take this theory for what it’s worth - but I propose that when you combine Cruz’ superior ground game, plus some individuals’ tendency to support Trump as a way of blowing off steam, but who then renege in the voting booth, you get about a 7-point plus factor in favor of Cruz.

Thus, the 13-point Trump lead in this poll - 7 = Trump wins by about 6 points.

Also notice that while this poll is great for Trump, his big margin over Cruz has in recent polls been steadily getting smaller, from around 20 to 15 and now to 13.

Trump will almost certainly win South Carolina; however the margin will be small enough such that Trump will not get the knockout blow against Cruz that he wanted.

So this fight has more rounds.

You’re a guy who puts on his tag line a quote about objectivity from a high IQer, and then proudly displays his 90 IQ by getting taken by the obvious lies of a conman.

Pathetic.

So, 75% of Evangelicals do not support Pastor Cruz. That’s stunning given that Cruz has destroyed his campaign by appealing solely to a group of supporters that do not support him. Tell me again how Ted is running a brilliant campaign?

“Amazing to watch him commit political suicide with such dirty status-quo politics. He was supposed to be “the only principled candidate” in the race. A few months ago I would have never dreamed we would be seeing Ted do what he’s doing.”

Agreed. My household is extremely disappointed with Cruz. And we’re particularly disillusioned because we had so thoroughly bought into the meme that Cruz was the ultimate good guy. Turns out he’s just another politician, and an especially nasty one at that.

One thing is for certain though, this campaign and all of these debates have certainly demonstrated their ability to smoke out the weak sisters and the posers.

On the other hand, I don’t believe this would have happened anywhere near as effectively without Trump being in the race. By being totally anti-PC and fearlessly truth-telling, Trump has ripped the gigantic curtain away, exposing all of the many gangs of nefarious people behind it.

Ted can’t break 20 and Trump is consistently at 32-35. Trump will win and win big, and the amount of the pounding in NV will be even greater.

The many real Cruz supporters here will indeed to that, but the bulk of those posting attacks on Trump aren’t real Cruz supporters. They’re paid trolls, either being paid by the Democrats or being paid by the Cruz campaign.

“Roger Ailes is a supporter of Donald Trump.”

Oh, please. FReepers are way better informed than to believe a ridiculous lie like that.

One of the dumbest things ever is when people act as if they know better what someone else is thinking than that person does themselves. It's strawman logical fallacy.

You don't know me, nor what I think, and it shouldn't matter to you anyway. You make it personal because you can't stand the truth and making it personal is the only thing you have left. It's a loser tactic and a logical fallacy.

Don't think coherent rational people can't see what's going on, they can, and it's what is truly pathetic.

As you know, I’ve been digging into the internals of all these polls.

Very interesting that regardless of the poll, Trump wins a much higher % of college educated than Cruz. In fact, Cruz is usually pretty low (mid teens) with the non-college educated group. At any rate, it rules out the notion that Trump supporters are “dumb” or “uninformed.”
