How Trump Bought the Conservative Movement
Accuracy in Media ^ | February 16, 2016 | Cliff Kincaid

It has become increasingly clear that the "self-funded" candidate in the Republican presidential primary, Donald J. Trump, will destroy the GOP's chances to win in November if he is not the nominee. Leftist groups are ecstatic over Trump’s "Bush lied, people died," mantra over the Iraq war. Internet trolls for Vladimir Putin are firmly behind Trump, saying he has the right recipe for accommodating Russia.

...

How did this happen? Conservatives who should know better went beyond praising his attacks on political correctness to welcoming him as a legitimate conservative candidate for president. Last year, Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union (ACU) and co-founder of Cove Strategies, a lobbying firm, went on MSNBC and was asked by Chris Matthews if Trump is a "plausible president." He said "Yeah. Definitely. Definitely." He also said, "I actually know Donald Trump," in regard to some of the businessman's other controversial comments. Such remarks sent the message to conservatives nationwide that Trump was one of them.

Ironically, Schlapp is the former political director for President George W. Bush, now accused by Trump of lying to get the U.S. into the Iraq War. How well does Schlapp really know Trump?

It seemed to start when the ACU declared Trump "an American patriot" and announced he was addressing the 2013 conference of the ACU-sponsored Conservative Political Action Conference. That same year, his Donald J. Trump Foundation gave $50,000 to the ACU Foundation. The Donald J. Trump Foundation also gave $25,000 to The American Spectator Foundation, the organization responsible for publishing The American Spectator magazine...

Being conservative means you're ideologically and philosophically aligned with the Founders. The constitution is an ideology and a philosophy, put in PRACTICAL POLITICAL terms, and IS THE SOLUTION. Not your messiah.

I have come to the conclusion that the rino’s, should they approve odumbo’s replacement for Scaila, deserve to lose the election and I now hope Trump will win. The bastards deserve to be thrown out on their asses ASAP before THEY destroy this country. There will be a day when the republicans can look in the mirror and say, “We caused the destruction of America”

Ah yes, The Conservative Movement!

So many of us still remember how the heroic Conservative Movement in Congress stood up to Obama and stopped his agenda by passing a budget that eviscerated his illegal immigration policies, eliminated the energy-destroying EPA, eliminated the Marxist propaganda Education Department, eliminated the job-destroying Labor Department, eliminated the racist Civil Rights Commission, defunded the FCC until they give back control of the Internet to private industry, defunded Obamacare, defunded enforcement of 99% of Obama”s regulations and Executive Orders. It was a great day for America when that happened, when the Conservative Movement stopped Obama’s agenda cold!

Given all of these amazing accomplishments by the Conservative Movement, it’s no wonder that the only thing that Freepers and rank-and-file Republicans everywhere care about is getting some more of them elected so that they can continue applying their Conservative Movement principles to such good effect.

Show me where donnie was all over the immigration deal before 2011. If you can do that then I will believe you, otherwise you are full of it because Cruz was on the exact same immigration policy he has now.

I know you think donnie is the second coming of Christ but he is no better than Hillary.

"This is why you people are losing to Trump."

Enjoy it while it lasts. Trump's boorish behavior - while winning about a third of the conservative vote in a large field - is alienating almost everyone else, and if he is the nominee, he will get clobbered in November.

But Jim what will they replace it with?.....you cannot blow a Government without somethng more substantial to fill that void and Trump offers nothing but his cronie corporate friends to fill in the gap which is simply Oligarchs running the place.

Trumps shown no concrete plans...just the “He Himself is the answer....and that’s not the freedom of people when a dictator takes charge who has no idea what he’s stepping into.

Looking at his long history of supporting government/business partnerships (taxpayer money propping up business) and his support for horrific decisions like Kelo, to me it appears that Trump is the biggest big overreaching government candidate in the race, with the possible exception of Sanders. His very recent rhetoric does nothing to make me see it otherwise.

Yes! Stick with “The Conservative Movement”! Determined and approved by the same “principled conservatives” who have been serving up letdown after failure after letdown for 30 years!

Sorry chum, not buying it this year.

You guys seriously dont know when to shut up and stop digging, do you?

Nope and the really sad thing? After being strangely silent about their milk toast GOP Establishment in Congress's behavior with Obama, they will spend the next 4-8 years doing everything they can to undermine any GOP President who is not their guy

It sounds to me that the Trumpetts are telling us to discard the Constitution with its separation of powers, states rights and Bill of Rights in order to rule effectively. The classic “end justifies the means” argument.

I don’t see life, liberty and secure property down that road.

You make an excellent distinction between “Conservative movement” and “Conservatism.” That would explain why Trump does not give a trance-like response of the catechism when asked to define conservative. Instead, he talks of conserving the nation, and making it economically successful again.

Also, you hit the BULL’S-EYE when you said: “gloBULList corporate take over of all industry.”

That is absolutely too true as the objective of many politicians who BRAND themselves as CONSERVATIVES.

Well it appears they’re perfectly willing to try an outsider. The GOP has promised conservatism for how long? And how long have they failed to deliver? And for how long have they actually been at war against conservatives?

“You guys seriously dont know when to shut up and stop digging, do you?”

Nope, they don’t. They want to blame Trump for the failure of their “I’m holier than you” party. They don’t give a damn about ISIS coming across the border and they’d not blink if everyone was beheaded as long as abortion was made illegal.

Sickening.
