Retired U.S. Senator Tom Coburn is not happy about being misquoted by bombastic billionaire and reality TV actor Donald Trump in the real estate mogul’s latest attempt to perform character assassination against constitutional conservative presidential candidate Ted Cruz.
As part of the onslaught of baseless personal attacks against Cruz, Trump retweeted quotes supposedly attributed to the former Oklahoma senator.
The quote attributed to Tom Coburn, which called Cruz “one of the most dishonest people in DC,” was never spoken or written by him, according to the former senator in a phone interview with the Washington Examiner.
Instead, Coburn called the quote an “absolute fabrication,” in other words, an outright lie.
“It’s an absolute fabrication. I’ve never said that, period,” Coburn told the Examiner. “It’s unfortunate he would use my name to say something dishonest. It’s a total fabrication.”
According to the Examiner, the actual quote came from a leftist loon at a far-left website that had attempted to smear Cruz in the same way that Trump is:
Trump retweeted his social media director Dan Scavino, in turn quoting Coburn talking about the Texas senator. “He is, without a doubt, one of the most dishonest people in D.C.,” read the quote Scavino attributed to Coburn. However, the quote appears to come directly from progressive website ForwardProgressives.com and writer Allen Clifton, who used the exact language to describe Cruz.
While the tweet was taken down by Trump, we were able to retrieve the above screenshots via Politwoops, which publishes deleted tweets from major U.S. politicians.
Some are already calling for Trump to apologize to both Coburn and Cruz, although it is highly unlikely that Trump, the only Christian in world history to have never asked God for forgiveness of his sins, will admit fault.
Publicly apologize @RealDonaldTrump to Senators @TomCoburn & @TedCruz for the blatant lie! #TrumpLies #SCPrimary pic.twitter.com/3Dth7jm5ec

Even though the tweet was deleted, Trump continued to use the phony quote to smear Cruz, later on the campaign trail, as reported and caught on video by The Right Scoop.

Sen. Coburn: Cruz’s Ploy Was Dishonest
http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/sen-coburn-cruzs-ploy-was-dishonest
Sounds like Coburn is now saying it is not his quote, but he is not necessarily disagreeing with the content. Interesting.
It doesn’t matter to his supporters. The more he personally attacks from the Left, the more they support him. The more he talks bad about Conservatives, the more they support him. If he shot somebody in the middle of the street, they’d crown him King.
The irony here is Cruz didn't need to lie. If he had remained honest, he would still be competitive. Liars lie, they can't help it.— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) February 17, 2016
I just find it odd that while the typical Cruz supporter is hyper-religious, they are utterly blind to his constant LYING. It's just weird.— Bill Mitchell (@mitchellvii) February 17, 2016

A Freeper captured the truth. TRUMP is guilty of “paraphrasing” what Coburn actually did say, of Cruz.
Coburn may have no use for TRUMP, but he has even less for Cruz, as this thread will soon attest.
Coburn, on the subject of Cruz, is on the record and much of it on film. LOL!
tRump is the most vile person currently running for president.

Coburn knows full well his comments about Cruz have been reported for months! Remember this is the guy who ‘loves’ Lindsey Graham! Coburn voted yes to proceed, but Coburn didn’t vote on the gang of 8 amnesty....coward
Here he says this about Candidate Cruz: Ted Cruz: “Not ready for primetime.” Coburn likes RUBIO!

Coburn is a Rubio supporter.

The guys got a stronghold on the people...unfortunately even when they “see” the obvious truth about Trump they cannot seem to escape this.....though some are getting free .....that’s what ‘deception’ does, it slowly wraps it’s tentacles and binds people before they even realize what’s happened.
Talk about beating a dead horse. How many times has this been posted already? You Cruz FReepers are grasping at anything you can find. Good grief, do you Cruz supporters ever post anything touting your own candidate?
Too bad Trump is crushing Mr. Haney in most polls.
I continue to be amused by all the references to “Canadian Ted Cruz.” Evidently you folks think that Canadian law overrides American law in terms of who is recognized as a citizen of the U.S. Sure, I know all about the document that his father signed, but unless you think that such a document has jurisdiction over what our law defines as a citizen, then Cruz is an American citizen whether you, or Canada, like it or not.
The definition of “Natural Born Citizen” is still arguable, but Cruz’s basic U.S. citizenship is not.
His Book...the Art of the Deal....should have been titled the Art of Deception.

Did it take all morning to come up with that Gem?
Why is it you Cruz supporters spend more time trashing Trump than touting your own guy? If Cruz is so great, you could spend your time telling everyone about his achievements, but you don’t. Nope, you guys instead spend countless hours pushing the same worn out stories in hopes that they’ll hurt Trump. Here’s a clue...IT’S NOT WORKING! All you Cruz supporters are accomplishing is coming across as bitter little snobs.
I think Cruz should treat his loyal supporters like you to a free trip to the Southern border to pass out teddy bears and soccer balls to the illegals. While there you could receive an autographed picture of Glenn Beck!
Trump is resorting to the dirty politics that he is accusing others of doing.

I know, it’s hilarious by now!
This is what “utter defeat” looks like... to put it in real terms, of none other than Ted Cruz’ favorite phrase. lol.
Utter defeat recognizes itself and these guys are experiencing it, up to the ears, or something would stick on that wall they are now prostrate trying to hold up.
