Coburn: Trump-circulated quote attacking Cruz 'absolute fabrication'
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/16/2016 | Al Weaver

Former Sen. Tom Coburn is angry about being quoted in the latest Donald Trump attack on Ted Cruz.

Coburn called the quote an "absolute fabrication."

As part of his never-ending criticism of Cruz, Trump's Twitter feed retweeted and pushed a quote ostensibly from Coburn criticizing Cruz as "one of the most dishonest people" in Washington. Coburn never said this.

----snip---

Trump retweeted his social media director Dan Scavino, in turn quoting Coburn talking about the Texas senator. "He is, without a doubt, one of the most dishonest people in D.C.," read the quote Scavino attributed to Coburn. However, the quote appears to come directly from progressive website ForwardProgressives.com and writer Allen Clifton, who used the exact language to describe Cruz.

When I built my new barn a few years back, I had a whole hedge row of trees bulldozed out of the way. Had a few cherry in that row. One was a huge old tree that had branched and twisted so it was no good for market, so I let it lay for 2 years and then decided to cut it. I had no idea cherry would get that hard that fast. It burns great, too. Turns into these chunks of burning coals that will last through the coldest night. Markets not been good for cherry lately, though, but when it’s good, it’s really really good. Hate to burn anything halfway decent if I can help it.

Yes, that would be wise. Instead, he just REPEATED the Coburn MISquote at a rally a half hour ago.

(And I don’t even like Cruz)

Yeah that’s the way to ‘get em’ Donald Trump makes the mistake but Coburn is the real scum because he corrected a lie with the truth.

Some people have really lost it.

Perhaps his sources are telling him it’s legit. I’ve seen news organizations do that. Refuse to change a report because they believe their reporters.

I chunked out a lot of it and have it stacked in the barn. Use it in my smoker. Ever had cherry smoked bacon? ribs?

Definitely worth it.

So now the response is, “SEE! HE DID IT TOO!”

As if that somehow excuses the super-Christian Ted from sleaze.

"Imagine, for just a moment, that somehow Trump disappears from the race. Within 2 months Bush will be #1."

I never thought I would say this, but Trump has proven himself to be so vile, so contemptible, and such a serial liar that I would absolutely vote for Bush before Trump. I will not vote for Trump under any conditions. If he gets the nomination somehow, I'll vote libertarian.

I believe you, just as I believe a lot of others on this site will do as you will do.

Not everyone here wants to see America be great again.

Well that’s certainly possible. Yet Coburn says he didn’t say it.

The above is One place where that has Coburn himself talking about Cruz. It’s clear he doesn’t care for Cruz’s tactics.

Coburn himself:

http://www.buzzfeed.com/ilanbenmeir/tom-coburn-slams-cruz-effect-less-faith-in-congress-disappoi#.fcxpZ0ep4

Former Republican Sen. Tom Coburn said Thursday night that his former colleague Sen. Ted Cruz’s rhetoric and failure to deliver on promises is creating a “Cruz effect” that leads the public to have less confidence in Congress’ ability to do its job.

“I call it the ‘Cruz effect,’” Coburn, who retired from the Senate in 2014, told Sirius XM host Pete Dominick. “Look, when you tell people you can accomplish something that you can’t, for example, shutting down the government over the Affordable Care Act. When, in fact, you promise people in your speeches and your talk that we can do this, and by dinghy, we’re gonna get rid of the Affordable Care Act, and all we have to do is shut down the government.

“Well, that’s one thing to tell ‘em that,” the former Oklahoma senator said. “It’s a whole other thing to be able to accomplish that, and build a coalition that once you shut it, that it doesn’t get opened up ‘till you win.

“So what happens to that is, once you’ve told people that, and you’ve put your finger — ‘everybody that doesn’t believe exactly like I believe, you’re not a patriot, you don’t care about the country’ — what you do is you create greater disappointment in the hinterlands, because you gave them a false hope, knowing that you couldn’t accomplish it, but it was about yelling, and screaming, and waving the flag,” he continued. “And so what happens is, there becomes less confidence in the Congress and its ability to do its job.

“You know, I came out of the Senate with one of the most conservative ratings ever in the history of the Senate. You know, it was like 98.8% in terms of conservative,” Coburn concluded. “And yet, I compromised all the time to accomplish things that were good for the country.”

If you think Trump’s statist policies - to the extent there’s any coherence to his thoughts at all - will make America great, you haven’t the slightest conception of what made it great to begin with.

Hint: it wasn’t socialized medicine, bank bailouts, eminent domain or protecting union losers from international competition.

Trump is the liar. A liberal liar who uses progressive talking points to attack his conservative opponents from the left.

Here’s a clean copy of that one section without all the weird characters:

This election is about immigration, and America’s identity.

I’m stating that for other readers, not you.

I’m done with you.

America's identity begins and ends with the Constitution.

I'm stating that for the folks with IQ's above room temperature, not you.

I could not vote for Trump in the primary. He’s behaving abominably. If forced, I could support him—or almost anyone—over hillary in November.
